$600 - Launch 60 gig PS3. More like $650 with tax.
Just typing this makes me cringe at that price. Won't be an early adopter again. I'm sure that last statement won't mean much to me when PS4 comes out.

I remember paying somewhere in the 500.00 range for my ps3 a few years back. My second player is a cheap black Friday magnavox in my room thing kinda sucks. Think it was $69 bones. Two of my worst investments. Besides my hd player for the 360 lol!! When the ps3 breaks I will buy a 3d standalone player.

I waited long enough to get into Blu-ray that the prices were pretty reasonable. Under $200 for sure. Can't remember exactly.
However, about 10 years ago, I do remember paying $1300 for a standalone DVD burner! It was a Pioneer, and it allowed for crude menus at a time when DVD authoring and internal burners were in their infancy and still quite pricey. |

Well my launch day PS3 Phat cost me $599, but it wasn't for just the BD player.
I soon after purchased a Sony BD350 standalone, for around $399 (i think) but it was so slow and clunky, i sold it and bought a 2nd PS3 to use solely as a BD Player, until they sorted out the stand-alones. Once they finally sorted out the players, i bought a Panasonic stand-alone, to which i still have to this day. Yes BD was expensive, but I remember paying a lot more for my first ever launch day DVD player. Something along the lines of $800. And that was in-expensive compared to my Pioneer laserdisc player that cost over a $1000, and the movies cost an arm and a leg too..... I remember paying over $150 for a jap copy of Pulp Fiction, which had Jap subtitles at the bottom that i couldn't turn off. My g/f at the time (now my wife) was not best amused, when i had to get up half way through the movie to flip over the disc and wait a min or two for the player to re-initalize itself ! Amazing to think what we take for granted now !!

I paid $300 for mine at Walmart. Got it with the stimulus check we got around June of that year.
"If we're about to die anyways, I'd rather die fighting! Come for me Gmork, I am Atreyu!"
"And use some of that cologne Gertrude got you for Christmas." "Oh do I have to Mother, it smells like ether?" "With pleasure." |
