Default LG 47LM7600 vs. 47LM6700

I'm finally getting around to getting my man cave and with that comes the need for a new TV. I figured might as well go 3D. I've been doing some research online and think I've decided on what I want but I'm stuck between choosing 2 models, LG's 47LM6700 and their 47LM7600. The only differences that I see are the refresh rate (120 vs 240) and the price ($100 more for the 240hz.) Not sure if $100 is worth it for the 240. Some people say most can't tell the difference.

Anybody have either of these models or have any insight/suggestions? If anybody has compared the 2 that would also help me to decide.

Thanks.

Here's what I'm looking for and working with. Any suggestions would be great.

1)Prefer Passive to Active
2)Not looking for Plasma, i don't trust my family not to leave it paused for long periods. They tend to do that.
3)I'm estimating that the prime seating location will be about 99-100 inches away from the TV (8.25 or so feet).
4)I've seen various ways of figuring out what size screen to get based on viewing distance. I'm thinking mine puts me in the 46-55 range. Not sure if 55 would be too big. Also read at closer distances smaller screen is better for Passive 3D??
5)120hz is preferred. I was reading that the difference between 120 and 240 is not all that much.
6)The person doing our basement is going to set up the lighting so it doesn't pose an impact to the TV.
7)Budget is about $1000-$1500

Any suggestions? And if I'm overlooking anything I should consider, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any recommendations and pointers.
I think at your price range and the passive 3d you really limited your choices (could be good or bad) Most likely going to end up with an LG tv as thats prob your best bet in the passive market (at this time). I think the 55 should be fine for 8+ feet.

this one is right at the top of your budget

Any reason why you are not open to an Active 3D LCD or Plasma display? There are a lot of decent sets out there. Like jerzdawg said, you seem to really be limiting your options.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I'm not going Plasma b/c I'm 99% confident my wife and kids will leave cause image burn. They have a tendency to either pause it for long terms or leave it on a channel that's 75% still (an on-demand channel that is 25% video and 75% menu). As for Active LCD, not a fan of the glasses and i think my kids would either break them or find them too uncomfortable.

I figured I'd play it safe.

People tend to greatly exaggerate the lack of comfort of active glasses and the burn-in risk of modern plasmas. The newest versions of active glasses are very light and comfortable (very similar to any pair of basic sunglasses) and you almost have to go out of your way to actually burn in a newer plasma panel. Really the only downside I can even think of with active glasses are they darken the picture slightly which you can easily set your tv to offset (although to me the loss of half of your resolution with passive is a big no no).

I'm not a huge supporter of either side, as I have not really developed a deep enough love for 3d yet. It all comes down to your personal preference, I say go for whatever makes you happy. On the other hand, if you are only making your choice based on what some people say about burn-in and active glasses then I would recommend going to a few stores and really getting a feel for everything enough to form your own opinions. If you burn in a modern plasma then I give you lots of credit, it is really hard to do these days.

I was thinking about getting an LG but then Panasonic came out with a line of Passive 3D t.v's. It's the ET5 model and they make a 47inch (I got the 55 inch). Panasonic even uses LG parts. It has an extra HDMI jack, an SD card reader and is actually cheaper than the LG. It's only 120hz but has 360hz backlight scanning so it's pretty even with the 240hz LG in terms of handling fast moving pictures. I've had my t.v for a few months and I'm very happy with it so far. My brother inlaw has last years LG 120hz and it is a nice t.v but I did notice a lot of pixelation during sports and fast moving video. I hope this helps.

Default Lg47lm6700

After a year of research, I just bought the LG47LM6700. Love it. The Olympics in 3D are great. You will never run out of glasses. The extra glasses that came with it are identical to RealD used in theatres. The only difference is the printing on them. IMHO, I'm a 74 year old tech, Passive 3D is the best for now.

I think DaffyDC hit the nail on the head. I'm personally looking into a second TV and have a lot of the same limitations, except i have a bunch of windows where the TV is going. I am considering the Panasonic TC-L55ET5 55". So far it seems like every single review is positive. It is also in my similar price range.... amazon has it new for $1099.99 right now. Seems like a no-brainer.
Current Setup: Samsung 46" 650A 1080p 120hz -- Phat PS3 (500GB internal, 250GB external) -- RCA 5.1 Audio Theatre

I would take a look at The Sony HX750 or HX850. They are both excellent tv's when it comes to 3D and the HX750, which I have, maybe right in your price range.
Sony Bravia KDL46HX750 LED/3D Tv.
Sony BDP S590 Blu Ray Player.
Pioneer HTP-071 Surround Sound System.

I was really interested in the LG 55lm7600 but I heard that the 3D with the passive glasses comes out to only 540 display not the full 1080p. Am I correct?? I really want to get 3d but not sure if passive or active is the way to go, any help out there??

You are correct about passive and 540. That is a negative to passive. Active's negative is eye strain, glasses are heavier (minor quibble) and the need to replace the batteries (minor quibble). I have an active Sony 55'' and I love it..but my eyes can only handle one 3d movie a night. Sometimes..if I want to watch 2 3D movies back to back, I have to take a break before starting the 2nd one.

I'm looking at replacing my 60'' rear projection (lcos) Sony with either a active Panasonic plasma or a passive LG led. Leaning towards the passive because pq and 3D are important to me. Love the color and image of a plasma though....but I want the kids to enjoy it as well....they cant take the active 3D on their eyes (and they are 17 and 14).

It's even worse: you don't just have pixels twice bigger: pixel have same size of 1080 HD, but image is made of black lines interlaced to image lines; it looks like looking at an old CRT TV set! To get rid of "scan" lines you need to be far away from the display (remember the old rule "5 times screen diagonal"?).
