I absolutely cannot wait to add this to my growing collection! It took me about 5 years to finally figure out the name of this movie and buy it on dvd. My mom recorded this on vhs when I was young and I could only remember one scene of the movie. The news of this coming to BD is fantastic, especially since I've never even seen a dvd copy in stores. Since I am quite attached to my dvd, I think I'll make a combo pack out of the two.

When will we be able to preorder this? It seems like I've been checking for weeks now.

Nobody notice the U.S. dvd release was fullscreen? I don't know Discotek Media, but I hope they get this release done right!

I have the R2 dvd of this movie which had amazing anamorphic widescreen along with lots of extras. You can tell it was like the Japanese directors love affair with the project.

So if Discotek Media's release goes south, I recommend the R2 dvd version. But I warn you guys, it cost an arm and a leg.

Note: Little Nemo is widely known in animation circles for it's animation work and short deadline.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this might be Discotek's first Blu-ray release. Little Nemo is the only thing listed from the studio here. I know all of the release announcements I've read from them lately on their Facebook page have been DVD only releases.

Thumbs up

So far for Discotek's recent DVD offerings they have been above-average to outstanding. They have released all of Fist of the North Star tv, now starting on Lupin the Third tv, Galaxy Express movies, etc... on dvd. This is their first foray into Blu-ray and depending on if this sells well they may do more. Which might include Venus Wars and other retro/semi-recent anime/movie offerings... My gf and I plopped a pre-order down for it and I recommend anyone on the fence to get this movie as it's getting the best effort from a stand-up company releasing anime and other genres of film/tv for the older and hopefully newer fans....

Had no idea this was on the horizon. Don't remember much about the movie but remember liking it when it came out. Also used to play the NES game.

I'm thinking about getting their Lupin III first season DVD set because I doubt they'll ever release it on Blu-ray. It'd be great to get Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro on Blu-ray, being a Miyazaki film, but I'm not even sure who owns the home video rights anymore. The last I heard it was Manga Entertainment, who put out the most recent DVD release.

Not sure what you are talking about. It has been released a couple times in the US, both were anamorphic widescreen. The initial release went OOP and is now expensive, the second release is identical and is still available for under $20. There are three Amazon listings for it and they are all kind of screwed up, but it exists. Here they are. The UPC I have is the second one.

http://www.amazon.com/Little-Nemo-Slumberland-Gabriel-Damon/dp/B001IZNJ2M
http://http://www.amazon.com/Little-.../dp/B0002IQC5M

But I will be replacing my DVD with the Blu!

...Who-WHAA? I keep losing track of what Discotek's releasing this week. (Did they finally put out that bilingual Samurai Pizza Cats set they were planning to?)

Not sure if Manga's still around, but Cagliostro's one of their two or three "core" titles; if they are, they're not letting it go.

And on the subject of Nemo and Cagliostro-era Miyazaki, the abandoned test footage on the "worst experience of his career", unquote:
(Which would've replaced the opening train-chase scene, and Flip with a generic Ghibli boy-adventurer type.
Not bad, but...would've looked like all his earlier films, and just remade more early Castle/Sky drafts again...Okay, show me where there were more of those danged biplanes in the comic strip. )

just a few weeks left until this is released! Google is honoring the 107th Anniversary of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo on their front page. I didn't realize this story was conceived so long ago and I just learned about McCay, too. I can't wait to relive this story!

Not yet, but it's potentially getting released early next year to spring-ish time.... They haven't announced dates or pricing yet, but be sure the anime thread sticky will have a post when they do announce it...

While many comic strips lend themselves well to movies, Little Nemo is an exception. Yes, you can animate a panel and keep the story moving per the original tale in the Sunday comic strip...but the problem is that Windsor McCay designed his Sunday pages to be seen as a whole. He was a master craftsman. Take a look at this page:

One panel animated into a continous movie takes away that glorious overall majesty of his Sunday page.

Holy smokes, I remember my grandma bought a VHS of this and it was the only movie she owned for a while for when we would come over as kids. I always hated it haha. Brought back some cool memories seeing that cover again, though
