I thought that too initially but apparently you wont have too go that high unless your speakers are really small and unable too handle those mids.

Going a bit lower is best i gather because you wont hear stuff like male voices coming from the subwoofers. Above 80hz is starting too get localized and you might notice the sounds going back and forth between the speakers and the sub.

But this is just something i've read someone say on the web. Trust your own ears mate, 120hz sub lfe is a popular choice.

Although you may be getting the flattest overall frequency response, from what I understand, if you set your LFE any lower than 120hz, the discrete .1 information above that lower point is thrown away, and not bass managed and redirected like your speaker crossovers do.

From Chris Kyriakakis: "It's a filter that is applied to the content of the separate LFE track found in 5.1 content. That content is authored up to 120 Hz and so the only correct setting is 120 Hz."

Cool thanks for this. Yes you might loose some of the information if the mixer included lfe material there. So it's either this or live with the slightly localized sound hehe.

Another issue could be ones subs aren't able too provide clean output at >80hz.

Right now im just playing around with crossovers and panel placement. No harm in that.

If you want all of the material keep your lpf of lfe at 120hz Joe. Please bare with me as im playing russian roulette with my ears.

From what I've read, there isn't usually much, if any info between 80hz~120hz in the discrete LFE channel most of the time anyway. I have played around with it a bit, and it does seem to clean/tighten things up a little by setting it down to 80hz, but technically you could be losing some information by setting it lower. Hey, it's your setup. Do whatever sounds best and makes you happiest.

One thing that I don't understand, is that if it should always be set to 120hz, then why even make it an option to adjust it? I guess for 2.0 sound recordings, since there isn't a discrete LFE channel, you might want to adjust for that.

I just read that whole thing, and it was very informative. There are several things discussed in there that I have adhered to, and a few that are less than ideal in my setup.
