I’m not sure if that ^ is what you desire and I can’t vouch as to its ultimate accuracy in regards to the baked end product(s) but, I was assured that the RED product-related posts made by the Red Team, i.e. Jarred Land, Stuart English and Jim (Jannard) were true and accurate, at least at the time of publication…and, for all I know , may also be accurate at this point in time but, of course, best to wait for final details on Nov. 30th, especially if you’re a potential buyer.

Hey thanks Penton. Not quite what I was looking for, but any post by Stacey Spears is usually a good read and well worth passing along (big Widescreen Review fan here). I thought I read or saw a picture about what is essentially a slimmed down RedRay unit; different than the one shown on the main product page.

from comparative scientific testing rather than testimonials on a demo. I’m not so sure that “they” can, or will, do some independent encoder tests and comparisons. I think you’ll need an independent 3rd party to do something like that. Also, since REDRAY will be first out of the gate for 4K content home delivery, I don’t know if there is even much motivation for them to do so.

I suspect the most you can hope for initially would be a ‘White Paper’ issued by the Red folks.

As to your question, I’m not a specific timeline forecaster type of guy. That’s for people far smarter than me who can analyze a multitude of variables (which no 1 entity has control over) and issue a confident prediction. My brain is just too little to process something like that.

I‘m more confident in predicting that when 4K does arrive at your price point and you are conflicted while watching the imagery of some future 4K remaster of an older film, that the issuance of a boilerplate damage control statement like this (last paragraph) has an excellent chance of happening yet again, after your $5,000. install…

Concerning this ^. I need a little time for reflection after the loss of a loved one, so I’ll have to get back to you guys later on. Man, having to make the decision to put your dog to sleep, as the proper thing to do for his sake, and holding him with your wife while watching the vet perform the actual procedure isn’t an easy thing.

FWIW, you did the right(albeit very difficult) thing. We waited too late and sadly found our oldest dog(hearing/vision impaired) floating in the pool upon coming home one day. You exercised the best option by far.

Sony has a new SDK for a new 4K format with 12 bit color depth and support for 60 fps in 4K. ( remember that BD is 8bit color )
