Since this kit upgrades the hardware and software. Does this mean that in say 2 or 3 years, an evolution kit could upgrade it from 1080p to 4k or would that not be possible w/o a whole new display?

It is only changing control functions. Not the native resolution of the display. So no it will not change from 1080P to Ultra HD.
