Really sorry. As a new comer I am not allowed to post new threat. So I have to find the closest one and ask the question.
This is extremely strange problem to me. IT works in Hong KOng, but doestn work in Australia. So there must be some kind of region limiation for the player. |

Quick question, even though my NS-WBRDVD cannot be made region free, can it play Region 0 Pal DVDs?

Well, I was wondering if since NS-WBRDVD is able to play All Region Blu's(without alteration) from the UK would it also be able to play SD Region 0 PAL via HDMI? Thanks ahead of time.

I have wanted to go region free for a long time and this thread has inspired me to take a chance with an Insignia player. I just found a refurbished one (NS-WBRDVD2) on Best Buy's website for $50 with free shipping. I am sure I will be posting with all kinds of questions once I receive it.
Now the big question...what will be my first region B locked Blu Ray? I am thinking of getting something from Arrow. Can these players do PAL DVDs too? If so, I am definitely getting the UK Hitcher and Creepshow releases. Last edited by PrestonXI; 11-12-2012 at 12:54 AM. |

Well colour me suprised! I have posted on this forum before. I had purchased a used WBRDVD2-CA on Ebay, I had tried numerous times to make it work, unfortunately it just did'nt. Each time I tried to install the firmware update I recieved a funky message and the player would not recognise it. So frustrated I gave up, and instead purchased a Seiki player which could also be turned into a region free machine. So today I was bored and tried again to install the firmware on my insignia player, well it worked! The big difference between the Seiki and the Insignia is, the Seiki once changed is a Region B locked machine, and will not play Region A Blu's. Furthermore the build quality of the insignia is vastly superior. So Detroit, you can mark that the firmware provided works with
the NS-BRDVD2-CA!

I went a bit buck wild on Amazon UK in anticipation of receiving my player. Here is what I snagged...
Blu Ray - Demons and Demons 2 steelbook - Peeping Tom 50th Anniversary - Return of the Living Dead steelbook (can't wait to finally hear the original audio) - Rififi - Rolling Thunder - This is England - This is England '86 and '88 DVD - Creepshow (two disc) - The Hitcher (Special Edition) I will be eating lint for the next week and a half until I get paid again...haha! I hope this Insignia player works! |

I haven't received any of my region B Blu Rays or region 2 PAL DVDs to test yet, so my question is...will the option to change regions back and forth always be available in the initial menu on the player, or will it disappear and "lock" once I play a disc from a certain region? |

This is something you do not have to worry about. The configure player menu remains on the players screen indefinitely, the only thing that happens, is once the player is powered down it defaults to Region 1 for DVD and Region A for Blu-rays. So you have to change it back when you turn on the player. The only weird by product I have noticed, and this could be unique to my player model, is now if I play a region 1 DVD, it displays the subtitles, and they cannot be turned off. I have even gone into the DVD's menu and it doesn't work. Now this is not a deal breaker for me, just a little irritating. |
