Also, this movie was decent, but the beard-to-mustache ratio was way off.

Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.
Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't.

But...he DIDN'T do three films. Because that wasn't the idea.
It's the Emancipation 150th, so he made a movie about the Proclamation and the Amendment, as its own historical climax.

Spielberg also made a movie about the Munich athlete attack, but he didn't make it about all sixteen days of the Olympics, starting with the opening ceremonies. Directors have focus, that way.

Just got back and what a great film it was. I thought Denzel was great in "Flight" when I saw it a couple weeks ago but Lewis should win Best Actor hands down. IMO this was Spielberg's best work since Schindlers List (Yes even better than SPR)

Lol - I told my buddy that MONTHS ago after the first teaser trailer. Whether the movie is great, very good, decent, or whatever, I'm sure DDL does a fine job. He ALWAYS does.

Hmmm, powerful words. I too caught FLIGHT & enjoyed it very much & Denzel was great in it, but Knowing that he'd "possibly" be up against DDL/"Lincoln", I kind of resigned myself to the fact he'd Probably lose. Upsets happen, sure, but...

Let me be perfectly clear... 'Lincoln' WILL win the Oscar for Best Motion Picture of 2012, Daniel Day-Lewis WILL win the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Steven Spielberg WILL win the Oscar for Best Director!

FABULOUS movie! 5 out of 5 stars isn't high enough so the Booth Bijou is rating it at 10 stars out of 5!

Depends on the box office, really. Actors branch is the largest voting branch in the Academy -- but no Steven Spielberg film has ever won an award for acting. Not one. Nominated, yes. If Lincoln makes respectable money and the actors branch flocks to it, then yes, it has a good shot at Best Picture.

But there's this little thing called Les Miserables lurking around Christmas Day...

I am VERY much looking forward to Les Misérables. Based on the trailer, it seems feasible that Anne Hathaway could win the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. But I do not believe Hugh Jackman has a prayer of a chance against Daniel Day-Lewis.

If Les Mis changes my opinion, so be it. But if 'Lincoln' had come out last year, it would have beaten both 'The Artist' and 'Hugo' at Oscar time. And I loved both of those films!

Making money has nothing to do with anything.

So not true when it comes the to the Academy. The Oscars are an industrial trade show. The purpose of the Oscars is to promote the image and prestige of the American Film Industry. Movies that flop with audiences do not win Best Picture. The Oscars don't celebrate failure. The Oscars are not about "artistic quality", they are all about promoting the image of the film industry. So yes, doing well at the box office (relative to reasonable expectations, mind you) helps you on the path to a gold statue. Critical notices help too, too, as they assist in the goal of making the industry appear cultured, relevant, important, intelligent, progressive. So yes, you need great notices, and good box office.

Unless you're talking the documentary branch of the Academy the last decade or so, in which earning money actually hurts your chances of being nominated.

Do u guys think Denzel will get nominated? The Academy's dont give Zel enough respect. I think he should damn near get nominated in just about every film he does but he doesnt. Denzel to me is easily the best actor period but I never think twice about him getting recognition from the academies. Got Em!!

One spring a couple of years ago, the local community theater put on a production of the (understandably) rarely-revived "Our American Cousin", and darn, I was out of town that weekend--
Which I have to admit, had always had a morbid curiosity for me to find out, well, apart from that, Mrs. Lincoln, just how WAS the play?

(History records the line of dialogue at which the shot occurred, but no reviews as to whether it was good or not.)

I just saw this at my nearby theater tonight. It was a pretty fascinating film, pretty sentimental, but still a great, well made film. I'm still imagining what if Liam Neeson was playing Abe Lincoln? As great as Danial Day Lewis was as President Lincoln, with fantastic make-up, It felt like Neeson would have been more appropriate for the role, for his posture, charisma and presence, acting style he could have made a great Lincoln. Just thinking.

I really love Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevenson, especially since his deadpan personality really felt more at home in his role. I would have watched another 2 and a half hours just on Mr.Stevenson.

I had completely forgotten about his name at one time being attached to it. Was there ever a reason why he had to turn it down? I mean The Grey and Unknown were decent films but nowhere near the acclaim this role would have brought him. Not to mention playing a guy who freed "slaves" twice (Schindler being the other.)

I was shocked when I saw JGL in the trailers. Never realized that he had ascended from Indy flicks like 500 days to Oscar caliber movies like this one.
