It barely had any politics. Unless you include the XO/Captain discussing hypotheticals as politics. . If anything it could have dealt more with the political manuevering back in washington and what was going on in the defense department. Not just heresay and that girl running around talking about her defense program on the sub. It treated DC like a boogeyman. It shows up on the island to negotiate, one gets shot, and they just leave. Show me meetings, the president, councils, planning, etc. As it stood, it was vague about what the heck was going on in washington. That was my main problem.

Personally, I think they dealt too much with what was happening on the island instead of dealing with why the Colorado was embroiled in this conspiracy regarding the attack on Pakistan. Storylines dealing with drugs, kidnappings, revenge murder ... that's the kind of thing reserved for Law and Order and CSI ... not The Last Resort.

It's a bummer, really loving the show so far.
I wonder if it would have made any difference if they would have made it clearly political fiction (which it already is, obviously) instead of possibly confusing some viewers into thinking it was the view of the show runners on current politics? Something like starting each episode with a date set in say ... 7 years from now, or something like that?

I think they immediately alienated a certain segment of the population with the assertion that a sitting US president nuked a foreign country without provocation.
The writing has deteriorated with the realization that the ratings werent there. They seem to be throwing everything imaginable against the wall hoping some of it sticks. As I mentioned before, the Sam/Sophie flirtation struck me as a big mistake (which they somehow compounded this week). U cant have Christine standing by her man under serious abuse at home while hinting at a possible dalliance on the island.

Nope, it's just a normal 1 hour episode.
I too wonder how it can get properly wrapped up in ~45 minutes given how much is still going on, but at the very least the finale won't be boring.

I was thinking that the only way they could have wrapped it up "cleanly" was to allow the coup to succeed, and maybe keep a rogue Sub captain as a threat for the last ep and maybe dealing with the local drug lord for good.
But with the last minute foil? No way they can give a satisfying ending...

Overall, I think they pulled it of successfully. Would have been nice to have at least one more episode to wrap things up. At least to show things that happened that were only mentioned.

Good show at least unlike the Event we got a fitting conclusion. I enjoyed this while it was on and will definitely miss this show.

Well, as expected a lot is still in the air (Kylie is assumed shot by SS, but what of the Island, the mobster, Sophie, etc.?), but it was a mostly satisfying conclusion, particularly when you know that the showrunners were informed of the cancellation while filming episode #12, and had basically just the one episode to wrap it all up.
The speed at which they turned around the abduction of Christine was funny, you could tell that they had a lot more planned but had to bring her arc to a satisfying conclusion fast.
