Which do you think is better? Pros and cons of each?
A comparison between TAS and Raimi's first movie only, not the trilogy. It's more fair that way. I'll be watching TAS tomorrow, so I'll give my opinion then. LG 55 Inch LM6700 Passive 3D TV

Raimi's Spider-Man has split personalities. First hour is fantastic and then goes straight into the gutter in the second hour.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the movie I envisioned whenever I thought of a Spider-Man movie as a kid.

Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man is pretty much a remake of Raimi's Spiderman anyway - it really isn't that different thematically, tonally or narratively.
I really enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but Raimi's trilogy really set the tone for it.

I prefer The Amazing Spider-Man because its just an overall better film and better executed. A bigger reason is because I cant stand Tobe Maguire! Got Em!!

Spider-Man 1 had a slightly better villain (DaFoe went over the top just the same) a stronger supporting cast, and score.
Amazing had the superior lead, a better story, the better LI, and the fight scenes actually felt like Spider-Man. When it comes down to it though, for me, the first movie just hasn't aged that great. I think Spider-Man 2 is standing the test of time, but the acting and dialogue in the first film is really wooden. I'm giving this comparison to Amazing.

Amazing.
The old trilogy was incompetent.

The Amazing Spider-Man
Spider-Man looks to "comic-booky" to me. almost to cartoony. i still like the original movie though. I really like both, however I like the reboot better for several reasons. First, Spider-man is supposed to make jokes, that did not really happen much in the original. Peter becomes a whole other person when he puts on the mask. The Amazing Spider-man at least attempted to portray this better, did not always hit the mark though. I just feel they both have pro's and con's, just think Amazing had less cons, Tobey was too whiney a lot, too much crying, and I did not like Dunst as MJ at all. MJ in the comics is confident, a supermodel, and none of that was portrayed at all in Raimi's movie, hopefully in the reboot, they will get these characteristics better. Overall I liked them both, and feel they could be looked at how there are several versions of the comics, Ultimate Universe, Regular Universe, so it does not bother me that they rebooted so close after Spider-man 3, I would have liked to see where they went with the fourth, however it seems, they were really just doing for the sake of doing it, and it might not have had much passion and the film could have suffered for it. The decisions they made in 3, such as Harry dying, Venom dying, I think would have impacted the series as well and made it harder to continue. Hopefully they can right these wrongs with the new trilogy. Either way as a fan of spider-man, I am just happy to have more movies as long as they are as good as the previous bunch.

Although I liked The Amazing Spider-Man, I much prefer Raimi's films. The villain's better, the music is significantly better and it simply feels like a more cohesive and entertaining film. I found the first half of the reboot rather choppy and bland. For example, comparing the scenes of Peter getting bitten - in the 2002 film, it felt like a significant moment. In the reboot, it seemed to be a simple case of, 'Oops, I've just been bitten by a spider. Best act natural so Gwen Stacy doesn't think I'm an uber geek, lololololol.'

Awe man Im sure there are other things we would agree on. Just because we feel differently about Denzel/DDL doesnt mean we wont agree on other things. If we agreed on everything then the world would be a boring place, kinda like DDL movies hahahahah. Sorry but I had to. Got Em!!

I loved Amazing, I think had Goblin been with this kid over Toby it would have been even better... He just does the spider-man shitck so well, I feel like I'm watching a better animated series. I can't wait for the next one even if the villian sucks again.
Because it's easier to have courage from a safe distance away.

Amazing just feels bigger in scope. Peter's world is bigger, with a shadowy underworld of villians only hinted at in the first one.
Better:
Same: Lizard/Goblin - both a bit lame (Goblin just came off as campy). I like Sam Raimi's version. Spiderman 2 is pretty awesome. But to me, even though much of it was a re-hash storywise - The Amazing Spiderman just hit more of the right notes all the way around. Looking forward to seeing the story expand in part 2.

Amazing Spider-Man really makes you realize how unsatisfying Raimi's Spider-Man is.
We finally got a lithe acrobatic Spider-Man who's capable of quipping and bantering. Plus he's actually likeable. And we finally got The Lizard after 3 movies teasing us about him. And no Mighty Morphin' Goblin Ranger. Only pluses to Raimi's Spider-Man at this point is J. Jonah Jameson. Which is no huge loss given the weakness of the film.
Bat-Mite: "Batman's rich history allows him to be interpreted in a multitude of ways. To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but is certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots then the tortured avenger, crying out for mommy and daddy."
Batman: The Brave & The Bold - Legend of the Dark Mite. |
