I always find it pretty amazing to watch "professionals" do their work as they are so fast and efficient at it. Not sure why that amazes me, but it does
The space looks great, I'm excited to see it come together with paint and carpet. It really is the first basement I've seen without a drop ceiling or dry walled ceiling so it really has me curious. * Sub: SVS PC12-NSD * L/C/R: Axiom M22's * Surrounds: B&W DS6 * Pre/Pro: Integra DHC-80.2 * AMP: Emotiva XPA5 *

The drywall is done!!
It was finished and primed today while I was at work. I came home to some nice smooth walls ready to be painted. First, here is the pile of crap I bought at Lowes last night. Lots of foam board for insulation from the utility area. Also some lumber to frame out the window in the HT. Oh, and 200 ft of trim (which I will install after the carpet is in. ![]() Stairs looking into the office ![]() Stairs looking into HT ![]() Main wall in HT... wife got a little antsy and started painting right away. ![]() HT looking towards utility area ![]() HT looking towards office/stairs ![]() Gonna get most of the paint up tonight/tomorrow and then just wait for the stupid carpet people to call me back.

Oh man, this is WAYYYYY quicker then my basement project.
You're really flying along my man! Have the carpet people already measured the space? What type of carpet are you looking to install?

The painting looks 'excellent' . . . what are the colors you're using? I think my monitor isn't quite what it once was . . . (or perhaps its these old eyes) . . . so, i'm not seeing the colors clearly . . .
I think you may have a future as a painter . . . 👍 Cheers. |

The HT wall is called "Falcon"... sort of a flat graphite color.
The other walls are called "Stratus" They are a pretty medium gray, but meant to contrast with the darker walls. In certain light it almost has a blue tint to it... so it's not just your eyes.

I've been reading that when it makes it's way into HT receivers, it will utilize 2-4 discreet overhead channels depending on your setup. The idea of overhead (vertical) channels sounds like it could really add a new dimension. I'm staying tuned, but for now it will just be 5.2.

Doh! The HT area alone will be about 19x23 plus the little hallway to the utility area.Yeah, I had been green with envy for years watching others build their home theaters... just waiting for my turn. So far it's been a great experience (besides a crappy day of spray painting the ceiling.... that was the worst) I see too many people try to do too much, too fast. Or try something that should be subbed out (i.e. mudding) and it sucks all the joy out of the project.

Quick update:
I have 2 immediate challenges in front of me. One I have a fix for, the other will be more... involved (read "crappy") Challenge 1: Each ceiling joist runs the length of the HT/Office. At the end of each joist is a space stuffed with ugly yellow insulation. I am glad it is insulated to keep my heat in, but the spray gun did nothing to mask how dumb they look. ![]() Solution: I bought several packs of foam board which I have cut to size and my wonderful wife has graciously painted flat black ![]() Here are the puzzle pieces I had to custom cut for each joist bay. Waiting for the paint to dry before putting them up. ![]() ![]() Challenge 2: The window is not finished or even framed out. I cannot trim it out without framing out the structure around it. ![]() Solution: ???????? ???????![]() I'm really not sure what to do as the dimensions that need filled out around the window vary by several inches. I have bought several 1x10s and 2x10s. I now need to borrow a table saw to rip them to the right width and tack them in place. Once done, I will paint the whole mess white and cover it with curtains. It may not be pretty, but I gotta hunker down and do it this week. Also... MY CARPET IS BEING INSTALLED ON TUESDAY!!! I'll finally be able to start mounting and setting up electronics!!
