This shows how you just can't trust everything you read, because CNET has it wrong.

Leahy's bill would actually strengthen the requirement for warrants when searching e-mails. Currently, government obtaining any e-mail older than 180 days requires only a subpoena, and anything less than 180 days requires a warrant. Leahy's changes would make a warrant required regardless of age.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification. I am remiss in not vetting the story before posting.

I still think its crazy that a bill/ law such as that would attempt to be passed in the first place. If they are here to protect us, who protects us from them?

If we did'nt have e-mail then we would'nt have the Taliban commander who cc-copied his entire contact list(400 individuals) by mistake,resulting in a treasure trove of information for the coalition against!
