More of the system. Yes, the references take things to a new level, but the cost is just too steep for me!

is open with a good soundstage. Bass is stronger than I anticipated, and very controlled. Midrange is clear and smooth, and the highs lack glare or edge. Overall, a very nice sound, however, I suspect that I still need to set the speakers up as far as tilt and positioning go for ultimate performance, but that won't happen until I'm finished getting the rest of the furniture in the room together. I will keep you posted.

Thanks, Thunderbolt, I am about to purchase some speaker outriggers. Once installed, I will get in touch with you about positioning.

Hi All.
Current Alon II owner, for over 15yrs. Was wondering how DQ30's compare to the Alon II's. Are they peers, or is one thought to be better than the other? Thanks. |

Thanks thunderbolt. Someone was selling DQ30's and said they were better than my Alon II's, that's why I was asking.
BUT, I discovered the woofers on my Alon II's need refoaming. These pretty straightforward to re-foam? Use shims, test tones, or can I just give it my best shot and centering without either? Only refoamed some mids once before, and they were easy enough. Heard woofers may be more challenging. |

Selling them would be hard, but the larger room may need a bigger speaker? Any help would be appreciated? I'm waiting for the Emotiva Amp & pre to be shipped, had a cyrus amp on them last, using multiple sources.I was considering an LSi-15, or PSB Image? Don't think I'll be able to afford a NOLA? Thanks for any guidance |

well gotta be honest i have alon 1s they are amazing speakers just wondering what you replaced the woofers with because there is no driver that can replace the stock and work. after listening to open baffle speakers for any amount of time sounds like you have the 1s for awhile any box speaker will not replace them.dont torture yourself look for a used alon if you cant afford nolas. alon2 4 or 5 would fill your new room with room to spare

back in the 90's I lived on long island & the place that sold them to me replaced the woofer. Now in 2010 I live in SC, & an Electrostatic speaker rebuilder here, replaced the 2nd woofer for 150, 2 yrs ago.
They sound great but I'd like a bit more! I'd love to get my hands on alon 2's!!! Oh yeah! |
