Default Powerball $600 Million: 2nd largest jackpot the world has ever seen

$425 MILLION: Largest Powerball lottery jackpot in history

2nd largest jackpot the world has ever seen

Quote:
Let the frenzy begin.

For only the 2nd time in the history of United States lotteries — or in the history of lotteries around the world — a lottery jackpot run-up has exceeded $400 million.

It's a prize level never seen by the Powerball multi-state game, and only once seen by the rival Mega Millions game. And millions upon millions of people around the country will be lining up for their chance to claim the historic jackpot Wednesday evening.

The new high-water mark of $425 million for the current Powerball jackpot was achieved after no winning tickets were sold for Saturday night's $325 million grand prize. And if past ticket sales are any indication of what will happen this week, the jackpot may get bigger — much bigger — by the time the drawing kicks off.

The lump-sum cash payout value of Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is a staggering $278.3 million. After-tax cash and annuity prize amounts are reported state-by-state on the Jackpot Analysis page at USA Mega, a web site devoted to the Powerball and Mega Millions multi-state lottery games.

The cash payout value also sets a record for the largest ever offered by Powerball, and only second to Mega Million's record of $471 million, set on March 30, 2012. (See list of all-time record annuity and cash jackpots below.)

A little logic: Buying just 1 ticket moves the odds of winning from nothing to microscopic. Buying tickets beyond the first moves the odds from microscopic to still microscopic. That's why I get 1 major lottery ticket every 2 years or so when I catch word of a 9-figure jackpot. Torching $1 every 2 years isn't gonna bankrupt me.

Powerball is $2 a ticket. I'm going to play $10. The odds are outlandish but some lucky person wins it.

I'll buy a few tickets. One thing is for certain, if you don't buy any tickets you stand 0% chance of winning. If you buy one, the chance is there.

I'll pick up 2 tickets myself. I had three numbers in the one earlier this year as well.

Live comfortably within my means for the rest of my life.

You're not too far off with me.....with one exception, I'd buy an island...=).

I'd pay off my house, and would build my new house, nothing fancy, we own property now to build on, and already have the house plans, I'd still build the same house, but would just pay cash......3700 sq. ft. is fine for me...........I wouldn't give any money to family members though, especially my in-laws.....=) I would however quit my day job, and focus on my company...work for myself, only when I wanted to...I'd go bored without a job.

I just hope I don't have to split the jackpot with anyone else, it would seriously alter what I can do with the money......

my in laws floated us a loan a couple of years ago and really helped us out. didn't hound us for the money back or anything at all. i'm still working on paying them back....which is a lot harder now knowing that i'm losing my job in 6 months.

so i wouldn't have any problem giving her some money if we won.

i don't even think we'd buy a new house if we won. i'd just fix up the one we have to where i'd be satisified w/it and stay in it.
