Went by TRU and they had 4 deluxe and 2 basic. Went to nearby Frys and looked around at Blu-ray. No Wii U at all. About any hour later went back and there was 1 deluxe and 1 premium left. Impulse bought the deluxe. Doing the update now. Knew I should have waited and started this before going to bed....

Yeesh, about 3 hours to get the initial update.

Then update to Youtube about 2-3 minutes. Looks the same as the PS3 app. Behavior was opposite of what I would expect: single video on GamePad with the full screen on the TV... can that be flipped?

Then put in Super Mario Bros U... another update this time about 5 minutes or so. Sigh. Updated fine and played a couple levels. Not bad. Tomorrow I'll try Nintendo Land and probably spend a bunch of time playing SMBU for myself and the kids.

First impression could be better due to those updates but now that it's done it's nice. Is there a way to eject from the software? Looks like I'm gonna need more Wiimotes. Maybe I'll get one pro controller and another wiimote or two and should be set, I think.

Doesn't seem to be nearly as hard to find as the Wii was when it launched. I've seen the basic and deluxe versions (at least 4, each) in stock at both Walmart and TRU this week. Seems like a lot of hype to me. "Oh, you can't find it anywhere!"

I'll wait for a price drop or a basic bundle with a decent game (no, Nintendo Land doesn't count). All the store employees I've spoken with basically say the same thing... It's not selling like they expected it to (beyond the initial rush of scalpers looking to flip it and Nintendo fanboys willing to pay whatever Nintendo charges for a new console) because people were expecting a lower price point. Should have been $249 basic/$299 deluxe.

Doubt the Wii U is rare at all though it's possible I just got lucky. These were the first ones I've seen in person at stores and seemed to be going fast.

Starting to get annoyed with the transition times between menus and apps. Also annoyed with the seemlingly ceaseless updates (now doing a 20 minute update to Nintendoland) and that update muzak. Hopefully updates make it quicker transitions (if not putting them in the background while you twiddle your thumbs) and give an option to turn that beeping update muzak off, if not the ability to do anything while it's doing it.

What's battery life on everyone's gamepads like? Had it fully charged last night. Now at 2 bars, so I guess I'll charge during the update. Are you guys using the stands? Seems like the plain stand is more than a little redundant with the charging one, no?

Every source I've read says the it lasts 3-5 hours before needing charged.

yep and that's why i sold my Wii U today. i like to play a lot of games online and b/c it's so new there is just not many people. over the course of 1 week i was able to play 2 games of Madden online, 0 Fifa, 0 NBA 2k13, and then all the rest were COD BLOP2

Games that came out sooner (Not a lot sooner in the case of BLOPS2), run worse due to being quick ports, have extra stuff like trophies/achievements to earn, have much larger installed user bases to play online with and in the case of Madden have stuff stripped away will do worse. That is just common sense

All about the exclusives since beyond that stuff would still be a PS3, PC, 360 or Vita purchase for me.

light around the home button my Gamepad never comes on. Isn't it supposed to come on with notifications? I had several but still no light... Don't see anything in the settings that looks like it applies...

There is an option in the system settings menu for the home button LED, but I am pretty sure that it is enabaled by default.

never got an eco case with a Wii game. guess it was in the US they used them

I was at best buy to get some movies. So, I decided to see if they had any wii u's in stock. And they did. They had 7 of them.

It is claimed that the Wii U processor carries a clock speed of 1.24 GHz - less than half the speed of the PS3 and Xbox 360. However, its GPU core is believed to run at 550 MHz, which is the same speed as Sony's home console and a tad faster than Microsoft's.

The Wii U processor speed has previously been described by one developer as "slow and horrible", though Nintendo has never revealed the final system specs so it remains a matter for debate.

A hacker by the name of Marcan, however, may have brought an end to the speculation by publishing specs on his personal Twitter account. The hardware enthusiast was a well-known Wii hacker who publishes his work on HackMii.com.

CVG is contacting various developers to confirm Marcan's claims.

Marcan has also suggested he is attempting to hack the new Nintendo console.

Last Tuesday, the chief technical officer at Metro: Last Light developer 4A claimed there would be difficulties with a Wii U port due to the console's ""horrible, slow CPU".

His claims were subsequently put into a more philosophical perspective by publishing partner THQ.

However, another developer has echoed the comments made by the chief technical officer at 4A Games.

Gustav Halling, lead designer on Battlefield 3: Armored Kill at EA studio DICE, said on Twitter that he was concerned with how the next Xbox and PlayStation will likely dwarf the Wii U hardware specs.

"This is also what I been hearing within the industry, too bad since it will shorten its life a lot when new gen starts," he said.

He continued: "GPU and RAM is nice to have shaders/textures loaded. Physics and gameplay run on CPU mostly so player count is affected etc."
