Then we got the white primer painted on and the Dricore subfloor laid.

I would recommend Dricore to EVERYONE. Very easy to put down and makes the room feel much more comfortable.

Then I started painting the front wall where the screen will be.

I chose Behr Premium Plus paint in Flat finish and in a colour called Poppy Seed. Very dark, but not black. Should make the light from the projector really stay on the screen and have minimal light scatter.

Here is one with my to give it a bit of perspective...and sexiness.

It's looking good! I agree with the Dricore. I had it installed in my basement and it's working out well so far. It's keeping my feet nice and warm, and more importantly will keep my carpet dry in case there's a leak...

Looks really great, the front wall will be amazing with that screen! Should make the Sony projector you got look superb!

I was always worried about putting a subfloor in because the ceilings are low in the basement (7' 8" I think) but at 7/8" thickness, it's not a big difference. Looks like they are pretty easy to install, what did you think? You just basically throw them down, cutting w/ a tablesaw as needed?

Pretty much. Very easy to install, and make the floor feel completely different. Doesn't have that concrete feel anymore. Totally recommend it.

Here are some new updates as things are progressing nicely.

I decided to switch projectors and go with an Mitsubishi instead.

Its a beast of a unit and weighs a tonne. Build very nicely.

Back of the room painted.

Front of the room. Really starting to take shape now.

That color looks awesome! Rich and classy and just perfect for a theater.
To be clear; and I don't think you specified this:
Projector Wall: Behr Premium "Poppy Seed"
Ceiling: Behr Premium "Poppy Seed"?
Walls: Behr Premium "???"

I've been looking around for that Roxul insulation. Apparently the closest place to me that sells it is ~120 miles away. Do you remember how much (ballpark) it costs? I think that would be perfect for my interior walls and ceiling.

That looks like one hell -ov-a projector. Got any glasses yet? The colors look very ambient, very cosmopolitan and elegant/classy.

Carpet next??? or hardwood? If getting carpet in a basement one thing i learned
from the contractor that did my parents home is that in a basement you want a minimum of 55oz. For 2 reasons. 1 warmth and 2 durability. Also the highest grade underpadding. That's true of hardwood or not from what i was told.

That is what i have and it is very warm and nice on the feet without sinking in too far.

Hey DJ,

Glad you like what I am doing. I'm quite proud of it and am very excited.

Here is the lowdown on paint:

Projector Wall: Behr Premium "Poppy Seed" *flat finish*
Ceiling: Behr Premium "Lead Pencil" *flat finish
Walls: Behr Premium "Chipotle Paste" *Eggshell*

As for Roxul. I got mine at either HD or Lowes, around $46 bucks a bag.

Building the stage and riser are next Adam. Actually I have ordered my theatre seats already because I am going to need them here to space out everything.

Then it will be carpet. After that, the room acoustic treatment products from Primacoustic will be installed.

Busy weekend. Got my projector up and mounted. When you are doing it by yourself, take your sweet as time. I took a lot of time to make sure that the projector was right where I wanted it and lined up where I wanted it.

It is a big @ss projector. Weighs a lot too, so it wasn't all the easy getting it up there.

I was originally going to have the projector lens at about 12 feet away, but once I got my mind wrapped around my seating, I had to move it back or people would have hit their head on it.

Default Stage Constuction

Monday was stage day. Decided on my design which did not include a curved front as originally planned.

After some thinking and measuring I decided in needed a different a different shape. One that would give my front Studio 100s a little more room to breathe, rather than being stuffed in the corner.

The main part of the stage was rather easy. 2x6 rectangle.

I leveled the hell out of this thing and it was obvious that my floor was far from level. Luckily it will all be covered in dark carpet.

Angling in the corners was a bit tricky as one of the angles was very large (115d) and I ended up cutting it on my bandsaw. But once it was all screwed in I thought it looked pretty sharp.

Next I will fill it with Roxul and add the plywood. Then on to the seating riser.

Hey Ryan, LOVE the way the room is progressing but I have one question. In the photo above, is that going to be an Equipment/Gear room (on the Right) ? It seems like it could affect the Acoustics of what should be a Great sounding HT

If it was in the Back of the room, maybe not so much, but I was just curious on the whole thing & why you decided to place it there & not in another location.

Again, just curious & NOT trying to slight the setup/design of your room

The equipment will be going in a PRO rack from Sanus

http://www.sanus.com/ca/en/products/...ponent/CFR2136

This will be located completely outside of the room, at the front of the hallway entrance, underneath the stairs. It will be framed in, and I am hoping will look really sharp.

The area you are looking at was where there was a support beam and main water drain pipe. So I had to enclose it. The space you see at the side will be used for collectables, figurines, and other movie related stuff. It is fully insulated.
