Glad to hear Star Trek "2" will be 3D. Betting it'll be a hybrid 3D conversion, with live action 2D to 3D, the plentiful CGI rendered 3D for stronger 3D if they do it right.

So... three forays into the Land of Oz in 2013? lol, nice to see the studios making a pointed effort to keep things fresh.

Oz: the Great & Powerful in the native 3-D camp pitted against the controversial post-conversion of a beloved classic. And Dorothy of Oz thrown in to round things off with a 3-D CGI feature.

I know who I'm rooting for. I have faith in Disney when it comes to live action 3-D (and I'm salivating at the idea of those cameras)... I just hope O:TGaP doesn't suffer from the same kind of aimless script that Alice in Wonderland (an exceptionally good conversion) had.

In the 4 hour Prometheus documentary, they show the 3D camera logo, which says "Red", though I'll say Underworld 3D also used Red Epic camera's, and it was a mixed bag because the cameras are dependent on the guys deciding how far apart to separate their distance between each other (or distance from the mirror on a single camera 3D rig). Prometheus I thought looked great, though they could have pushed it more admittedly.

Sam Raimi's Oz, I have to check out in theaters for the 3D preview before I can tell if they did a good job or played it too safe (conservative). Will see it either way.

Yeah. Lots of 3D films are using these.

Underworld Awakening
Prometheus
The Amazing Spider-Man
Step Up Revolution
Flying Swords of Dragon Gate
Resident Evil: Retribution
The Hobbit Trilogy
Texas Chainsaw 3D
Jack the Giant Killer
Oz: The Great and the Powerful
The Great Gatsby

Zivouhr is right though. The choice in camera determines video quality more than the shape of the 3D.

Great list. Thanks.

Of those, I highlighted the ones that have done a really great job with the 3D based on the movies or trailers in 3D. Underworld 3D and ASpiderman 3D have great 3D, but only for select action scenes while most of the movie has weaker 3D (likely due to 3D storytelling where dialog is considered unimportant for 3D ).

Jack the Giant Killer and Flying Swords of Dragon Gate I haven't seen yet for the 3D.

I didn't say that there wasn't people who cared. I said most people, general audiences, don't know or care about post conversion. If its a movie they want to see and it is in 3D, they go. Conversion or not.

People on forums like this, they are more "in the know" and have more hesitation when it comes to post conversion jobs.

Good summary.

As I wrote in another thread, Oz 3D looks outstanding for 3D, and the movie looks interesting also. Hansel and Gretel's 3D still looks great after three views in theaters. Really looking forward to both in 2013.

Iron Man 3 will hopefully use the 3D team from Avengers 3D.

"Hansel and Gretel" was shot partly in 3D and partly in 2D, with later stereoscopic post-conversion by Stereo D .

The 3D shots were done by lead Stereographer Florian Maier together with his STEREOTEC team and two Mid Size STEREOTEC 3D rigs with ARRI Alexa cameras.

Classification is tentatively put under "Natively Captured and Converted 3D "Hybrid" Feature"

Side note: To others: The Wirkola film 3D release, should not be confused with the also-in-development film Hansel and Gretel in 3D, set to be produced by Michael Bay.
