Setup my Wii U tonight and just finished playing around with it for a few hours. A few thoughts.

Overall I'm impressed with a lot of things. The setup was extremely easy and the initial system update wasn't as time consuming as I thought.

I ragged on the Miiverse pretty hard but it's better than I was expecting and a LOT more interactive than the whole Mii thing on the Wii was. The Netflix interface is very good on the Wii U.

So far I've only played New Super Mario Bros U and it's a lot of fun. Similar to New Super Mario Bros Wii but with a lot of additional things that improve gameplay. Soundtrack is very good, as all MArio games are. Graphics are decent but not great. Then again it is a launch title so I'd expect future games to be better graphically. The interactivity with the Miiverse in this game is very good. One thing that does irk me if that you can only use the Wii U Gamepad or a Wii remote sideways to play Mario. Why can't they allow you to play it with the classic controlled or Pro Controller?

Future Shop and Best Buy messed up last week and printed Game Party Champions instead of Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade for $29.99 when it is $49.99 so I priced matched it at Wal-Mart since they didn't know it was an error figuring it might be a fun time killer for $30. I was very, very wrong. How do games even get released with such broken controls and stuff?

The Wii U seems the natural successor to the Wii as the go to console for crappy game manufacturers. Just look at the sales for some of the Wii garbage and it makes sense why they'd now turn to the Wii U for their shovel ware.

Thats what happens when you aim your console at the casual market, they don't give a shit about real games and thats why shovel ware sells so well on Wii.

well for 13 olds who think their "hardcore" because they got an achievement in COD anyway.

a lot of these so called "hardcore" games are idiots. like call your self a hardcore movie fan because you only watch R rated movies and everthing else for families/nanas.


Wii got those games primary due it being cheap and easy to dump crap like that on to.

before the Wii the PS2 got all those crap titles.

shame too since the good titles get buried on the shelf with all the crap games that get released.

There is a difference between casual game experiences which are fine and games released totally broken. Something like Dance Central is good because it works while something like Dance Paradise is garbage because it doesn't work. Game Party Champions would be fine if the controls worked since there is nothing wrong with that kind of game. But games shouldn't be certified if they are broken. Especially at launch when you want to sell people on the pad controller. Put somebody in front of Game Party Champions and they will think the pad doesn't function and not realize it is just the game. I mean air hockey essentially goes back to one of the oldest games in Pong. It shouldn't be hard to get the striker to follow where you are moving the stylus around the pad and yet they somehow couldn't even do that

The message when you launch the app still says "December", but it's been rumored to have been delayed to sometime in 2013.

Only one right now (FIFA 13), but more are expected this week (ZombiU Demo is the only one that has been confirmed).

Speaking of the demo, I found it curious (and disappointing) there was numbered usage limit in addition to the usual gimped mode. I've used 2 of the 10 of FIFA so far. Second screen stuff was nice but if I didn't change off to the manager or other modes, I found myself looking at the Gamepad more than the TV.

I don't like it either but that is how it is on the 3DS so I'm used to it. But on the 3DS I think the limit is 29 or 30. It still gives you a chance to check out the game before you buy it.

I don't understand why limiting the demo to 10 plays is a bad thing.

Just a general question for the folks who are troubled by this: Are you going to play a demo more than 10 times to decide whether or not this is a game you want to invest in? If so, why does it take you that long? I can honestly say that I have never needed to play a demo more than a handful (3 or 4) of times to make up my mind. I've probably spent more time downloading game demos than I do actually playing them! LOL

Ten times is enough to decide on whether to purchase a game. Like you said probably more than enough. But my son likes to play demos over an over again. It gives him a variety of games to play.

Demos are usually so limited that I usually deleted it before that. Not always though. Still not bothered enough that I'll rant over it, but like I said, disappointed.

This is a real problem with the early implementation games. I hope that devs figure out a better balance, but given how little the Wii-mote was actually utilized properly I'm dubious.

I was just wondering. Cuz, I haven't turned mine on for a few weeks. I only got 3 Gane. And, not really into any of them.
