The Exorcist and Alien all the way.
Lloyd C. Cramden: Flint, How do you find time to read all these books?
Derek Flint: No, no, no, sir, I wrote those.

The Exorcist is genius movie making. The stars lined up just right for this movie to be made. Yes, I like it THAT much. Still the only movie that makes me sleep with the lights on.

"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!"

Went with Halloween watch this every year. Second Alien, your right they got the atmosphere just right. Then The Shining this one can send chills down you.
Remembering our Soldiers over seas. Hoping they all get to come home soon to be with their family.

It's a difficult one because there very few horror films that I adore, but not because they necessarily frighten me, but because they use horror as a way of reflection or metaphor. An extension of themes explored, if you will. Using that, Ginger Snaps would be my favourite.

However, if we are talking of horror thats able to genuinely frighten me, i'll go with the original A Nightmare On Elm Street. Atmospheric, surreal and surprising and disturbing, I will never forget the first time I sneaked in that VHS tape into the video player and watched it with my cousin. Couldn't sleep that night.

Although it's not necessarily a favourite film, if we are speaking about the horror part specifically, I'm probably going to have to vote "Absentia". That film genuinely gave me nightmares and I watched that in my twenties.

In the traditional sense, The Evil Dead. But if I'm being really honest with myself, then Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me would be my choice. How can a film so nightmarish not be a horror film?
Favourite film: Blade Runner --- Favourite director: David Lynch
Favourite album: Movement by New Order --- Favourite novel: It by Stephen King
Currently reading: Ban This Filth: Letters from the Mary Whitehouse Archive by Ben Thompson.

Of the movies on that list, The Shining, The Exorcist and Alien are my three favorites...three of my top 20 films of all time in fact.

But I've never really considered any of those to be true horror films.

Suspiria is a horror film.

Halloween is a horror film

The Evil Dead is a film.

Jaws is a horror film imo.

Nightmare on Elm St.

Hellraiser

...etc

Alien.
Most films that I find good I don't want to experience again.

Don't Look Now.

That film creeps me out so hard every time I watch it. There are a few other films that manage to do the same for me without any of the effect wearing off (e.g. Picnic at Hanging Rock, Full Circle, The Innocents, Lake Mungo). Don't Look Now is my favorite of the bunch though.
