It's in the budget to buy my HT a small Christmas gift this year. I am trying to decide between a pair of bookshelf speaker to use as height speakers which would give me 9.1... Oooorrrrrr.... A second subwoofer which would bring me to 7.2.
I know that most votes would be for the second sub, and that is kind of where I am leaning. The only thing that has me wondering about the height speakers is the sheer width of my front sound stage. The bookshelves would go on top of my entertainment unit which would place them inside of my front mains, but several feet higher. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions? |

Can you place a second sub in a spot in which it will actually help the overall experience? Have you tried front highs yet to see if you like the expanded sound stage? || AVR - Onkyo TX-NR1009 || Amp - Emotiva XPA-2 || TV - Misubishi WD60737 || BD Player - Sony BDP-S790 || CD Player - Denon DCM-290 || Gaming - Modified PS3 Fat || Gaming - Modified Wii || Main L&R - Polk Audio Monitor 70II || Center - PolkAudio CS2II || Surround - Polk Audio Monitor 40II || Rear Surround - Polk Audio OWM3 || Front High -Polk Audio OWM3 || Subwoofer - 2 Polk Audio PSW505s || Harmony 1100 Remote ||

I would do the extra 2 speakers and if that doesn't satisfy your ear then add another sub later.
I think the overall expansion of the sound field will give you a better bang for your buck.

I don't really feel that I am lacking in anything, but we all are constantly searching for better. Ya know? I don't really have any extra speakers around the house that would give me a decent feel for what the highs would sound like. |
