Default Time for self Christmas present. 9.1 or 7.2?

It's in the budget to buy my HT a small Christmas gift this year. I am trying to decide between a pair of bookshelf speaker to use as height speakers which would give me 9.1... Oooorrrrrr.... A second subwoofer which would bring me to 7.2.

I know that most votes would be for the second sub, and that is kind of where I am leaning. The only thing that has me wondering about the height speakers is the sheer width of my front sound stage. The bookshelves would go on top of my entertainment unit which would place them inside of my front mains, but several feet higher.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

Do feel that your are lacking in bass response in your HT?
Can you place a second sub in a spot in which it will actually help the overall experience?

Have you tried front highs yet to see if you like the expanded sound stage?

Well as you said yourself, I am suggesting a second sub.
I believe it will be more beneficial than the other two bookshelves.
Adopted Blu-ray long before its development and launch.

I would do the extra 2 speakers and if that doesn't satisfy your ear then add another sub later.
I think the overall expansion of the sound field will give you a better bang for your buck.

I don't really feel that I am lacking in anything, but we all are constantly searching for better. Ya know?

I don't really have any extra speakers around the house that would give me a decent feel for what the highs would sound like.

With that size of a room I believe a second sub would be more beneficial.
