Hey quick question for everyone I have my hsu plugged into a monster surge protector do I even need it or could I plug directly into the wall? But plugging directly to the wall do I run the bigger risk of blowing the fuse or amp?
My outlets are standard grounded ready to go. Also I was tempted to plug it into my APC H 15 but I read too many horror stories about plugging into the sub bank on this model conditioner |

This may have already been asked if so sorry.
So right now I am using my VTF-3 MK4 with "1 port open and EQ2" which is great for music and deep bass, but lately it is too much for movies and regular tv. I wanted other users info about what setting you might be using for your sub? As much as I like the deep bass for music I don't listen to enough to justify having it be "too much" for my movies and tv. Thanks, Rustolem

Hi all –
I have been reading through this HSU thread and gained a wealth of knowledge from everyone. I was hoping to get feedback on my particular HT setup in regards to the HSU VTF15H. I like to call this room my 'private screening room', a 'bat cave' if you will...LOL! It is room that is off of the master bedroom, but only accessible via our walk-in closet, so it is isolated from the rest of the home. I was considering building an HT setup in the living room (Projector, 100in. fixed frame or motorized screen), but with two kids (3 year old who is extremely active & a newborn, who I'm sure will be the same way), its best if I keep my HT setup 'tucked away' in daddy's happy place to avoid any issues...LOL! My small (new) HT setup has dimensions of: Length: 11ft, 10in Width: 9ft Height: 7ft, 6in ![]() ![]() ![]() My query would be.... Would the VTF15H sub overwhelm my 'bat-cave' with it's size? Also, along those lines, how would 2 VTF15Hs perform vs 2 PB12-NSDs or 2 PB12-Ultras (just thinking' ahead a bit Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to learning more from all of the experts here at blu-ray.com! Cheers all! Last edited by MyOleKYHome; 12-19-2012 at 02:50 PM. |

MyOleKYHome,
As long as your speakers/subwoofer are calibrated properly and are balanced, you won't have to worry about your subwoofer overpowering the rest of your system. I prefer to have a better and larger subwoofer, even in a small room, than an underperforming lower quality subwoofer. Buy the Hsu subwoofer, place it in the corner of the room (not too close to the side walls), and live happily ever after. If you put the subwoofer on a riser, it may improve its performance.

MyOleKYHome,
I think you'll find that one 15H will be plenty. If the "boundry gain" gods are with you then you'll get a solid 15hz.

Thanks for the feedback. I keep going back and forth between SVS or HSU. At the moment, I'm leaning towards SVS (a PB12-Plus), but for cost to performance ratio, that HSU VTF15H really is hard to beat....Hmmm....I definitely need to make a choice soon or I'll be debating for the rest of the year. |

I'm considering one or perhaps a pair of VTF15Hs for my 5400+ cu ft space, a single VTF-3 MK4 will do you justice in your space.

MyOleKYHome...as others have said, a VTF-15H will do wonders in that small room of yours. Two would seem like overkill, but there never can be overkill when it comes to bass, right?

Hey guys I'm just starting to get into HT I'm looking to get the VTF-15H my room is around 2100 cf and its not a Dedicated HT room. For now I have TCP-55VT50 the Elite VSX-42 and for speakers I have are some old Bose's bookshelfs with the little Boses cubs for my rear with an very old Yamaha subwoofer that's has Dual 8's with 150watts. For you guys that have the VFT15H What are your thoughts?

The low frequency limits of subwoofers are always prominently displayed but what about the upper frequency limits? For example, I'm wondering how high my STF-1 can comfortably play. Anyone have information on upper limits of Hsu subs?

It's there for each subwoofer on the Hsu site. To the right, look under "product at a glance". It tells you the crossover and crossover slope. For your sub: 30 - 90 Hz (Bypassable); Crossover Slope: 24 dB/Oct

So does that mean if I want to use a 120Hz crossover through my receiver that the STF-1 will not go that high? It cuts off at 90Hz?

I have my HSU VTF-1 on an Auralex isolation pad thingy. Do you think it would be worth it to find pads to put my floor standing Polk Monitor 70s on as well? I have a hardwood floor and the floor standing speakers have mini-feet that can easily be screwed in and taken off. I'd have to find something:
