Just wanted to know if anyone can give me a rough estimate how far I need to sit back from a 124" 3D image to get the best effect/viewing when watching 3D content?
Thanks for all responses!

Honestly, project an image on your wall and see what you are comfortable with. 3D is all about immersion so some like to sit closer to the screen.

You know I am about six foot from my 104", so I would say around 8' for your size.

I used to set 10ft from my 120" and started having eyestrain and when I moved further back it went away. With my 150" I am sitting 17" away and no issues. I think for 3D on such HUGE screens, its important to remember that the inter-ocular distance is larger than small screen TVs. Also the viewing angle is also very big so its important to be as centered as possible for the best 3D experience.

http://jumpjack.altervista.org/acuita.xls JPG version: ![]() It needs some update, as 4:3 and HD Ready are quite out of market now... ![]() Anyway it says for example that the "allowed" viewing distances for a 42" 1080 2D set are 1,17-3,33 m; at 1,17 meters you will have a viewing angle of 39°, but just 16° at 3,33 m; I think that viewing 3D movies require the broadeest available angle, as surrounding of the display may appear disturbing, especially with "flickering" glasses. Distances above should be valid both for 2d and active 3d; but you must double them if you use passive 3d, due to half-resolution: if you get closer than 2x1,17 meters, you'll be able to distinguish "scan" lines (actually "other eye" lines). |

1:1 screen width to distance from screen for me... 3D a little closer. 120" screen (9 feet wide), 8 foot seating distance.
![]() Where do you like to sit in an IMAX 3D theater? Halfway back is about the same as sitting 7 feet from a 120" screen, back row is similar to about 11 feet from 120" screen...
