Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Announced

Along with these lovely scans came a few new details about the world of Lightning Returns and what we can expect from the combat. It seems Lightning’s costume isn’t the only big change we can expect; as promised the gameplay in Lightning Returns seems to be a drastically different experience from its predecessors. Lightning can reportedly traverse the world freely both on the ground and vertically, leaping on top of terrain and even using some elements of stealth. The concept of the game is “The world’s last thirteen days”. The first trailer for the game is due to drop this week, so stay tuned for more.

I just really want to know: "why?" Did XIII and XIII-2 do so well that they feel compelled to do a third part? I haven't been too involved with games lately so I honestly don't know, but did fans ask for these sequels? Just like with XIII-2, I feel like this just delays Versus XIII and any plans they have for Kingdom Hearts 3, which are what I think fans actually want. Though I will admit the new combat system intrigues me. I wouldn't mind if the combat system in the new one is similar to KH and Versus XIII.

The way that FFXIII-2 ends is insane! Biggest downer ending ever. It made me want another one. It kind of ends insinuating that another one will come. Also I liked FFXIII-2 more than FFXIII. I think Kingdom Hearts 3 is destined for PS4. Can’t come soon enough!

This news is 3 fingers in the bum, it really is. Vs is all but cancelled and SE is milking this turd for all its worth. I know some like/love the ff13 games, but they make barf. I put countless hours into previous final fantasies, and I couldnt even bring myself to beat 13.

All I want is an epic turned based rpg. I need to win the lotto so I can fund a ff7 hd remake.

Lightning is a great character, and I might (might!) play this game, but someone needs to replace the SE Ceo with someone that understands the strengths of their properties. It's like they had Bill Bellicheck in the SNES, PS 1 and 2 days and then swapped him for Rex Ryan once the 360 and PS3 rolled into town. My PSP and Wii have nothing on them but old Square RPGs.

Yes it does. The graphics look like a PS2 game. Are you kidding me. Lighting is awful, the framerate stumbles. Laughable. Just laughable. The definition of putting limited effort into something.

Lightning looks like a male Cloud now more then ever when they decided to cover her up even more. Anybody not familiar with the character would probably say its a man without seeing the face up close.

Call me odd, but honestly, Final Fantasy XIII wasn't much better visually than a good PS2 game in the first place. The only thing that looks better than say XII is the the character models (although they can't fix the puppet fingers). The performance issues on the video at least, is interesting?

It's odd I actually liked the game enough to beat it, and don't generally like JRPGs. (granted, I have a Persona character on my profile, but I'm asking to please don't flame) :P

Look, I get the hate about FFXIII. It's not a particularly good game, but the graphics were honestly pretty and very clean. Maybe not as much style or visual flair as Journey or Okami, but what was there was executed very well.

As for Lightning Returns... meh. If the gameplay is an improvement, I might get it, but the trailer just looks like FFXIII-2 with one controllable character and dodging.
