On Black Friday they were 50 bucks on Amazon but I didn't see any super spectacular deals. Still worth it, if you ask me.

Just a heads up newegg.com has the 12 month membership for $40. While not a killer deal, a deal nonetheless and $20 off retail.

So I received my codes from Newegg.com today and was wondering if I have to wait until my renewal time or will it reset the renewal date if I enter in early? Last year I renewed close to the renewal day and now I can't remember. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you can have up to 3 years in advance on your Xbox Live account. So if you are close to renewal time you can go ahead and redeem the code and it will just extend it another 365 days past your current expiration date. It does not make you lose anything if you have a month left and you redeem a 12 month card, you will still have 13 months. You will not be ripped off your remaining time.

If you need passes for gifts then ok. But if you need passes for your household then the Family Plan is the way to go. You get 4 subscriptions for a year for $100. You could also do this for people outside your household but you would be the moderator in a way to their subscriptions.

You can enter the code whenever you want. The new code will not take effect til your renewal date.

If you want to check the exact date your membership runs out, go to xbox.com, log in of course, and under your avatar is MY ACCOUNT, there you will see the date.

Just keep an eye out! I have bought deals around Father's Day and back to school and around some holidays. This past november Xbox had a $34.99 deal on the dash board so I grabbed one for myself and for my daughter (who's Gold had just expired). If you are a Costco member or know of someone with a Costco membership, sometimes they have good deals.

I know circa 2009-2011, Amazon would sell the physical 12 (sometimes 13) month cards for ~$34 - I would just use camelcamelcamel.com to price track and buy one if needed. Even though the price has inched up a bit over the years, I think the overall value has increased.

I still have an old white XB360 (Jasper) - I think that if the price of a new console hits the $99, I may buy a new one, just to have something that uses less energy and is a bit quieter. OR it would be nice to have a virtual XB360 within the XB1 and you could still use all the old accessories... But $500 is too steep for a new console - I will probably take a closer look when they are around $300...
