I hesitated when it dropped to $427 hoping it would go lower as well. However, upon looking last night it had climbed to $469. I went to online chat through Amazon's customer service/help section and after 1hr of chatting was able to have them honor the $427 price. In addition to this, I was able to coax them into awarding me with $30 in Amazon gift cards!

I was planning on buying a NR-709 from A4L for $449. Now the 809 is 477 and I am considering buying it instead. The problem is it won't fit in my TV stand (to tall). Looking in my gallery at the first picture, would it hurt my sound if I moved the center channel speaker to below where it is now and put the 809 where the center speaker is(on the top shelf)?
Or leave everything where it is and go with the 709?

Or build a small stand and put the center above the receiver (probably the best way to go , being that the center would be closer to ear level). || AVR - Onkyo TX-NR1009 || Amp - Emotiva XPA-2 || TV - Misubishi WD60737 || BD Player - Sony BDP-S790 || CD Player - Denon DCM-290 || Gaming - Modified PS3 Fat || Gaming - Modified Wii || Main L&R - Polk Audio Monitor 70II || Center - PolkAudio CS2II || Surround - Polk Audio Monitor 40II || Rear Surround - Polk Audio OWM3 || Front High -Polk Audio OWM3 || Subwoofer - 2 Polk Audio PSW505s || Harmony 1100 Remote ||

Can someone who owns an 809 measure the actual height of it and post it?
Thanks

Just measured my 1009 (uses same chassis as 809) it is 7 25/32". Onkyo states 7 13/16" for the 809 and 1009. I'm sure people have squeezed these in to tight places and what not but... Following is a direct quote from the owners manual... "18. If you install the apparatus in a built-in installation, such as a bookcase or rack, ensure that there is adequate ventilation. Leave 20 cm (8") of free space at the top and sides and 10 cm (4") at the rear. The rear edge of the shelf or board above the apparatus shall be set 10 cm (4") away from the rear panel or wall, creating a flue-like gap for warm air to escape" || AVR - Onkyo TX-NR1009 || Amp - Emotiva XPA-2 || TV - Misubishi WD60737 || BD Player - Sony BDP-S790 || CD Player - Denon DCM-290 || Gaming - Modified PS3 Fat || Gaming - Modified Wii || Main L&R - Polk Audio Monitor 70II || Center - PolkAudio CS2II || Surround - Polk Audio Monitor 40II || Rear Surround - Polk Audio OWM3 || Front High -Polk Audio OWM3 || Subwoofer - 2 Polk Audio PSW505s || Harmony 1100 Remote ||

Thanks for the measurements everyone. I will get the NR-709. Besides the power, there doesn't seem to be too much difference between the 2 AVR's.
I can use the money I save on the 709 to buy some HDMI cables.

Stick with the 809 and purchase your cables from a trusted and highly recommended company like Monoprice or Blue Jeans Cable. You'll be amazed at what you can get for your money.

The 809 won't fit in my tv stand. Monoprice was where I planned to buy hdmi cables.

Actually it's a 7.2, but with pre-outs for 9.2 if you add an external amp. Still a good choice and if in no hurry, prices on new units has went as low as mid $600 a while ago, might be worth waiting a bit, just in case, and if not A4L is a good choice.

I've also been looking at that Onkyo 1007 from A4L, along with the 809 and 818. Not sure what I want to do, but at this point, I may just wait on the 818 to come down some more for the Audyssey XT32.

No it does not.
