Isn't it a shame that ________ wasn't done in 3D? - Blu-ray Forum

Thought it would be good to have a thread where we can malign missed opportunities in recent releases that weren't shot or converted to 3D, but really should have been. For this year for me, the two biggest regrets are that Battleship and Total Recall weren't done in 3D. Both movies would really lend themselves to an amazing 3D presentation, with their scale and set pieces and FX. I would love to have seen both of these movies in 3D. they even look as if they were designed with 3D potentially in mind. Oh well, they both flopped hard, so the studios are probably glad they didn't spend the extra money to do the 3D. Or maybe 3D would have helped both movies?

Maybe it was because I had really low expectations but I enjoyed Battleship. I was also thinking during the movie, this really should have been done in 3D.

Actually total recall was in the theaters in 3d, Duno why it didnt get a 3d blu ray release

Hmmm when i asked about it in the wish list thread i was told that it was in 3d for theaters..... guess it got pulled at the last minute or somethin, dissapointing

They decided not to do it in 3D before they ever started filming. There are several articles online about it.

There are quite a bit I could name that I feel should've been done in 3D, but since this is only about recent ones I'll name only those.

Battleship- I agree with you OP this movie really should have been filmed or at least converted to 3D. It was ok movie too much of a Transformers rip off to me, the effects and spectacular action scenes in this movie would have been perfect for it. I really think this movie wouldn't have bombed as hard as it did had they done this in 3D, and it would have attracted more people.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol- I really enjoyed this movie, but i have to say it still really upsets me that this was done in IMAX rather than 3D. There are several action scenes i thought would have looked amazing in 3D, including the main one where Tom Cruise climbs that really huge building. That would have been more immersive and terrifying in 3D rather than IMAX.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation- I was upset when I first heard that this one wasn't going to be in 3D, but I was happy when they pushed this one back so they could convert it to 3D.

I definitely agree with these two also, and I also have to say the upcoming third installment of The Chronicles Of Riddick titled Riddick. I love those films with Riddick being one of my all time favorite movie characters, would have love to see this in 3D. Sadly this will only be in IMAX.

I think the new Total Recall would have been really good in 3D. There was so much 3D potential in this movie with both depth and pop outs.

Snow White and the Huntsman, Looper, Chronicle, and The Cabin in the Woods. Those would have been great if they had those in 3D.

I read on Wiki that they were originally planning on doing Cabin In The Woods in 3D, I guess they decided not to for whatever reason.

I should also said this about Battleship but didn't think to, director Peter Berg was asked by Universal to do Battleship in 3D but he refused to. Since he said he doesn't like 3D cause it gives him seriously bad headaches.
