For the record, the domestic release for The Dark Knight Rises saw four different styles of original movie posters (two advance styles, one final style, and one IMAX exclusive style). The rarest of the four is the IMAX version. It sounds like you dislike the "final" style movie poster, which in some ways was the first advance image re-used but on fire and with Batman super imposed over it. The one problem you will have when finding the advance style "B" (Bane walking away from the broken Bat cowl) is the availability of it, and the price. You can go the eBay route and pray you get an original, and another prayer that it is in mint condition, or you can go through a poster dealer. Most dealers don't have them, however some do such as MoviePoster.com which charges $110, and MovieMarket which charges $79.99.

Regarding The Dark Knight, the image you provided was of the "wilding" style which only came single-sided so technically it was "official" but simply not one of the theatrical styles. These were not found in movie theaters, rather up at construction sites, etc to promote the film. Also the paper the studio used to print them wasn't as thick as a standard movie poster, but the problem you face is because they were only single-sided, they can easily be faked or reprinted and it can be difficult to tell. I would have to speculate that there are a fair amount of knock-off's of this style out there so you really have to be on your toes.

However, what some may not know, is this same artwork was used again on the 2009 re-release style. Warner Brothers ended up doing a limited re-release into theaters as a pre-Oscar push in January 2009, and for that release the studio had a new movie poster printed and it featured this same artwork. They also added the movie's credits at the bottom and the poster was made double-sided and featured in those theaters that were offering screenings of the re-release. It is a VERY rare style, and thus, very expensive if it can be found (more info in the private message I am sending you). An image of the poster is below:

Bingo- you got it right. I had seen a 2 sided theatrical of that image, it did show up around the Oscar re-release. Also I never knew that Bane (w/ bat cowl) was rare so to speak. Humm.

I just got mine and opened it and noticed that the front of the poster is only glossy on the image and the background has a ruff texture to it. That is the first time I have seen that.

I can't decide if I want to pull the trigger or not on that Olly set. I want them, but at the same time I can live without them. BUT...if he's planning to do more Batman baddies, then I MUST have them!

Do what I did, buy a set now, if he does more, then you will be able to say you have the first set offered, but if he doesn't, then you can always probably sell for what you paid.

Pretty much all of the Dark Knight Rises are rare, anything official and authentic is hard to get, especially in near-mint/mint unused condition. The advance style "B" (bat cowl) one is quite popular, even the advance style "A" is as well, I wish the studio hadn't recycled a portion of the "A" advance when they designed the final style. But the rarest of the DKR posters is the IMAX exclusive style.

Yea me too. That's the right version then. I've seen a few try to do "texture" but not to THIS level. I think it's a real nice touch. The Star Trek Into Darkness tries to do the same but it's only the edges of the destruction (the photo) that's glossy.

The one with Batman and the bat sign is the clouds with the sun shining through it? Then yea that is rare, I've never seen it in real life sadly.. That is a nice one.

Edit...if memory serves me correctly the 24 x 36 is like $17.
I went to WM & picked one up. I wish they weren't 17 each because I want like 10. Lol.
But when I scanned it at a personal scanner it said 11.97 so I was like WOOHOOO!
Then I get up to the counter and after I get home I realized I'm charged $16.92 =/
I'll call about it but I highly doubt they'll do anything considering the scanner probably messed up or something.
That's the price on their website even, soooo.... =/

Question, where do you guys get your movie posters?
I just buy posters from random local places & tack them on my bedroom wall.
But lately since I moved and have a basement I'd like to get some nicer, cooler looking ones .

I'm a big Fringe fan, though I don't think I would ever have this up on my wall. Too many prints would have priority

Awesome looking print though, Englert does good work!

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I'd have way too many people coming over and asking, "What is that a print of?"
