Thanks! Fortunately for me I'm used to lugging around huge amps at this point. Can't say I'm looking forward to dealing with two though...my back hurts already just thinking about it!

Not sure about the XPR's Alex but the XPA's are very front heavy. I am sure the XPR's are the same way. Just thought you should have a heads up when you go to pick it up & Congrats on the new toys

Thanks; my go to in the past has been shove the box to the spot I want the amp because they usually slide easily on my carpet, then get the amp out at that spot, then just have to lift it a short ways. I like the towel idea though, and I've already got one right by the door for our Dane's feet due to this snow. They were supposed to arrive today, but since I won't be home I had them direct it to local fedex store. The tracking says I can't get them until Monday, but we'll see. I'm hoping that's not the case.

Did you re-run calibration in your receiver? If yes, what is the dB difference between the fronts and the other speakers?

Did you try them at reference levels?

Thanks! I haven't rerun calibration yet because I'm waiting for the XSP-1 to get in before doing that. I've gotten them to close to reference level, and they had room to go. The meters were at about half, but I generally don't listen that loud.

I'm using RCAs right now from monoprice, as they're the only ones I have long enough to reach. My blue jean cables weren't long enough to reach the left mono. If I decide I'm keeping them I'm going to buy XLRs to run from the XSP. More pictures will come tomorrow.

The first thing that was noticeable was the bass. It was better than my Octave and Rotel, and probably better than the Pass I had. The amps are extremely neutral. Having listened to the octave, and now these, I'd so the Octave was indeed warm, and the Emos are extremely neutral. They sound great. There's tons of detail without being bright. In my metal songs, everything remained coherent. There was definitely good separation between the instruments and vocals. I'd say for my preferences, I prefer the Emos to the Octave. They both have the 3d effect on good recordings, the bass is slightly better with the Emos, the emos look far cooler than the octave, and I prefer the more neutral presentation. I'd say I'm probably grasping though to substaniate the differences. It's definitely not a night/day thing between the two, just slightly different. From the Rotel that's currently in place, again, not a huge night and day difference to me. However, the Emos sound great and I really like them.

The plan tomorrow is listen to some vinyl. My best recordings are on it, such as my 45s of The Black Album. Will listen to that, Muse's The Second Law, and Mumford's Babel tomorrow.

Gotcha!

I did ask about reference level due to the fact that in most cases you will not notice a big difference at lower volumes, differences when adding a more powerful amp are going to be noticed when you are pushing things a bit further. And it seems like so far, you are happy with your purchase.

I can't wait to read your initial impressions when everything is hooked, calibrated and more listening is done with the new gear.
