Saw this at my local record store, and just had to pick it up!



Makes my room a lot more....Doctor-y. And awesome

Loved the special, though I think I prefer the previous two a bit more. Still awesome though.

Aside from the return of the great intelligence, did anyone notice the references on Clara's tombstone. She was born on November 23rd the date of the first ever Doctor Who episode. And she was 26 when she died, same age the classic Who was when it was cancelled.

So I was thinking of heading over to Best Buy to check out their rather small classic Who selection. Any good stories I should look out for?

Talons of Weng Chiang is considered one of the best, though it is very unusual in that it is set in Victorian London, and feels more like a Sherlock Holmes mystery than a Doctor Who serial.

BUT...BestBuy only carried the older edition of it. Amazon has the newer edition:

On a side note, I just watched Remembrance of the Daleks last night. Loved it. But then, I usually love the Dalek stories.

This was my first Doctor Who episode (well, second. I watched the one with The Silence and had no idea what was going on) and I LOVED IT! Great chemistry between Smith and Coleman. Great humor and story. Will definitely watch the rest of this series and try to catch up.

Back from Best Buy, picked myself up my first Third Doctor story (Spearhead From Space) and my first Fifth Doctor story (Castrovalva).

The three stories I usually tell people to start with are Tomb of the Cybermen, Spearhead from Space (which will be released on Blu-ray in 2013), and City of Death.

Aside from random favorites... I typically recommend first or last stories of a particular Doctor, where available of course.

The first or last stories make for good jumping on points for new viewers. A notable exception is of course "Blink" which is near the end of a season and practically has no Doctor at all but is a very good story.

I personally don't usually don't recommend first or last episodes. People tend to need to already know some continuity to understand those episodes. It's not easy to tell someone about regeneration right off the bat.

For instance one looses a lot in Caves of Androzani, if they don't know how new the relationship is between The Doctor and Peri is.

The three stories I have already stated (and Blink) need next to no knowledge of what Doctor Who is besides the basics.

I think that was already debunked. Smith said he is just going year by year, and they've already denied there would be a regeneration next year. We'll see what it happens.

I don't know if it has been denied... or if that even means anything... I mean, they are becoming famous now for releasing misinformation to misdirect people until episodes air.

But I agree that it seems Matt Smith is on a year-to-year plan.

At the moment, all I've heard from him directly from his mouth is that he will be there until 2014. That could mean he is gone the end of next year... or not. Until they start filming episodes without him, we will not know.

I still use "Blink" to introduce new people to Doctor Who. Funny thing is after they see it, they remember seeing at least one episode of classic Who before.
