I know this is is a couple months old, idk if anyone's ever seen it but I only came across this article this week. I know it's only Nolan's opinion and I think he's a really good director, but still I hate when people like him including Wally Pfister try to speak for everyone saying that nobody likes this format.
From an interview he did “The question of 3-D is a very straightforward one,” Nolan said in a recent interview. “I never meet anybody who actually likes the format, and it’s always a source of great concern to me when you’re charging a higher price for something that nobody seems to really say they have any great love for. “It’s up to the audience to tell us how they want to watch the movies. More people go see these films in 2-D, and so it’s difficult data to interpret. And I certainly don’t want to shoot in a format just to charge people a higher ticket price.” Rest of the article if you want to read it http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2012/07/...ually-likes-3d |

My bad I really didn't know what section of the 3D forums to put this in, I would delete this out and move this to there. but I don't know how to delete threads.

Well, the discussion is very complicated.
For example, a lot of people in the industry like to point out how movie theaters in other countries make gobs of money from 3D. The problem is, in a lot of countries, people aren't given a choice -- they have to watch a movie in 3D and pay the 3D premium. This lack of a choice is what is driving both 3D grosses and international grosses in general compared to the domestic market. On the other hand, here in the U.S., sometimes 2D screenings sell more tickets than 3D screenings simply b/c taking a whole family to the movie theater is already really expensive, and if there's a $2 to $5 difference per ticket, mommy and daddy will opt for 2D. This doesn't mean that the family didn't want to see 3D; they may want to see 3D but simply don't want to fork over the extra cash. Tiered pricing really sucks, though. I had the option of seeing Life of Pi in 2D for $7 or 3D for $15 at Cinemark. I picked 2D.

I agree. I hate watching 3D at the cinema because it's so effing expensive. On top of already outrageous prices here in Australia (around $4 extra for 3D session and the glasses) it's stupid and I'll opt for the 2D version (if it is available). At home i'll watch 3D over the 2D version any day.
If 3D was same price as 2D, I bet more people would be in those sessions. |

Oh I know me and my mom love the movie theater experience, but it's expensive especially the last time we went to see Dredd 3D tickets about $20 and the food run us up about $40 something. Last edited by reaper_234; 12-27-2012 at 04:30 AM. |

Correction: Nobody likes crappy 3-D. Good 3-D can be amazing. Even good 3-D conversion can be great.
For someone who uses CGI and IMAX in his films, he's awful closed minded to progress in making movies.
Bat-Mite: "Batman's rich history allows him to be interpreted in a multitude of ways. To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but is certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots then the tortured avenger, crying out for mommy and daddy."

Tom Hardy as Bane was awesome tho, he actually was really the only good thing about that movie. Up to the point they ruined him by making him nothing more than a mindless henchman.

That was the Batman & Robin version. He wasn't ever shown as just a mindless henchman in DKR.

Yeah, Im pissed that we where robbed of batman in 3d just because he dosent like the format, he should have realized though that 3d is alot more popular than it used to be, and i personally watch alot of 3d these days im almost up to 20 3d blu rays and dont plan on stopping and just judging by this forum I can see im not the only one, I think people are making it up when they say "nobody cares about 3d" because i always see 3d blu rays sell out quickly at walmart I go to the store early just so i make sure i get my copy, i guess just like HD formats 3d is fighting its way into the market

Did you see the Dark Knight Rises in the IMAX at all? I thought it was great on a 8 story screen with 12,000 watts of surround sound, there is no way I would have traded the IMAX experience for a 3D one.

Imax also does 3D. The next Batman movie will probably be in 3D.

Why do these threads degenerate into name-calling and format bashing?

That's too bad. I was really hoping that we could discuss 3D in terms of actual business performance.
