I wasn't introduced to Doctor Who because of Blink, but it's definitely my favorite episode. I streamed it on Netflix and watched that episode three times before moving on to the next episode.

Just watched Spearhead From Space last night. Absolutely loved it. Loved Pertwee's take on the doctor, and loved the story. The Autons are so awesomely creepy.

I'd like to introduce potential fans to the classic series first. The fact that it's old and lacks the hot chicks and explosions of New Who seems to be a barrier for a lot of people.

I'm one of the ones that was introduced to Doctor Who by way of the new Who. I'm watching some of the Classic Doctor Who on Netflix streaming. I'm enjoying it so far.

So watched some of Tennant's episodes new years eve on BBC America HD. Thought the quality was good on them for not being filmed in HD. Are they working on converting 2005+ into HD.

His final year of specials were all in HD... the "Next Doctor" Christmas special that preceded his year-of-specials was the last episode of new Who shot in widescreen SD... and that one they did upconvert for Blu-ray release.

If you watched the recent marathon, I think they were showing the Tennant final specials... which were the ones shot in HD.

As much as I love it and discuss it and have such a large always-growing collection of all things Who, it isn't even in my top 10. Too many weaker parts to it to balance out what I do like.

Well, that's expected after 33 seasons.

The DVDs I have look pretty good of the non-HD recent series... so maybe you're just seeing that when they broadcast them.

I'm not aware of any upconvert... and they most definitely were not shot for HD... I believe they were on videotape, though the BBC SD widescreen is technically slightly higher resolution than the US SD widescreen 480p resolution... so the result might yield better and that could be the difference you are seeing.

All I know is it looked better than most SD shows do when shown on an HD channel. Ill have to keep my eye out for more older episodes on BBCA.
