Epson 5010 vs BenQ W7000 vs Panasonic AE7000

Looking for a projector. Only want to spend around $2,000.

Do not want to get hung up on specs, so the BenQ is in the running, contrast 50,000:1. Have also heard there are some ghosting and game play issues with Epsons. Have heard only great things about the Panasonic.


Which one would you pick, why? Or should I look at something else? Spend the extra bucks on a Epson 5020?

I wouldn't go Panasonic. I viewed this myself and was disgusted by the Ghosting. I thought it was broken until I saw another installed.

I owned the BenQ W7000. This was a fantastic projector. 3D was the best I've seen. Reports on the net is that it has zero Ghosting. I wasn't into 3D so it sat in my kids room which they used for their PS3 until I sold it. I was not popular.
That is what I would recomend.

Haven't seen the Epson. Supose to be very good with just a little ghosting in 3D. Some users say It's a little loud.

I love my Epson 5010. I rarely see ghosting or crosstalk on mine. The blacks are excellent. I have played PS3 on mine many times and it has no issues. The Epson is real quiet with 2D and the bulb in eco mode, which is bright enough for me. In 3D mode it is louder, but if you have a good sound system you dont notice it. I say go for the 5010.

Thanks for the input. The more I read about Panasonic, the lower on the list it goes. Definitely BenQ or Epson.

I have the Panasonic PT-AE7000U and don't have the ghosting problem. I'm very happy with it.

Seems like AE7000 was very, very popular. Lots of reviews out there.

Mentioned it somewhere else, wonder if the number of issues is no more or less than the other PJs.

I'm going crazy, deciding and changing my mind again and again. Cutting out projector's after one night of reading, and then putting it back on the list after a night's sleep.

Will be going to the States in a month to buy. Doesn't seem like enough time. May just get the cheapest of the three and be done...but then again the Panasonic AE8000 and Epson 5020 may be worth the extra bucks.

It is a slippery slope. Started this search looking at Optoma HD33, but a better projector is always just 2 or 3 hundred away.

I've always liked last year's models. Got an awesome deal on my CD player, last in stock before new model arrived. Felt like I was getting away with a crime. When I was looking at AVRs I wanted the SR6003, none were available, so had to pay full price for the SR6004, felt like I was put over a barrel.

Difference in CD players from year to year is minimal. Difference in PJs, may be a bit more.

Looking for a deal.

What are the worst parts of your projectors?

Auto-iris noise on Epson?
BenQ RBE, low blacks?
Panasonic ghosting?

What things should I be prepared for?

You have hit the nail on the head. There is always something you will have to live with. Just remember all throw out a fantastic picture.

I'm looking at a upgrade next year. Top of my list is the Sony 4k and that has a iris. So still not perfect.

To tell of the truth maybe in the US , there is huge differences between MRSP and street price .

In the beautiful land of Canada the PJ that i got this year as been in the market in the last 3 years with the same price as the day that it came out meaning full MRSP ( i paid $100 less ) but there's a member here that got a JVC DLA-RS55( EMAGDNIM ) and if i'm not mistaken he got a great price on it since it's a discontinued model 2D/3D and 4K also .

But i remember him somewhere here in the forum talking with a guy that got a JVC model around 2.5K bought in the US . You can ask him since he already had several PJ's

In my Epson i turned the auto iris off ( It was said that was the best at projector central review ) and till now no problems . Yes it's a bit bright but i knew that from the beginning . I played live ( XBOX and PSN ) and i didn't encounter the problem as it was stated in other forums and here i only had lag and that was the same as playing truth my tv but had to do regarding poor servers in the gaming community ( EA comes o mind ) .

In Taiwan, the prices of projectors are ridiculous. For example Optoma HD33 is about $2,270 here, about $1,400 in the US. The Epson models here are Epson Europe. The TW6000, comparable to the 3010, to is $3,400, and the 3010 is $1,299 in the US. I started this search planning to get one of those.

Though a fantastic projector I am not convinced their e-shift technology is 'true' 4k where as the Sony VPL-VW1000ES is a true 4k projector. From what I've read written by Art @ projectorreviews.com.

Well with a $20 000 gap between models it better have some "differences" .

Well I saw the thing in action, it is a suhweet machine. Nose on the screen and you can't make out a single pixel. But with 1080p content on it, I'd have to agree with Badas that given the $20 grand street price I would grab the JVC-RS66 first. I'd take that 11 grand savings and buy a pair of Seaton Subversive subs or a new sectional sofa... or both.

There is just too many things that the JVC's are just getting too far behind.

1. Not true 4K.
2. 3D way behind
3. Lamps. Altho supose to be improved. They just can't get consistant white uniformaity. Check out the Lens and Lamp on the Sony 4K. That is a serious machine.
4. HFR. Has been confirmed for the Sony 4K

All those thing combined has pushed me away from JVC and towards the Sony. It might be $11K more expensive. However it means that I don't have to spend $11-$15 more the next year when they finally come to their senses and produce a 4K with HFR.
