I'll be following this thread closely. I really need to expand my Disney collection.
Films and movies are two different things.

No, Pixar rarely/never vault their films unless their coming out with a brand new release. For example the 2-Disc DVDs of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 went OOP/back to the vault because after a few months they were going to release them on blu-ray for the 1st time and with a free ticket admission to see Toy Story 3.

Popular Disney Animated movies are the ones that get vaulted and it's sequels. Platinum/Diamond Editions films aren't the only ones that get vaulted because Dumbo and Alice In Wonderland has been vaulted before. Some animated Disney movies have been vaulted quietly because new editions were coming out soon like Pocahontas, Oliver and Company, The Great Mouse Detective, and etc.

Back in they day Disney re-release movies every 7+ yrs. on home video market but now it usually takes around 4-7 yrs.

Cinderella 2/3 should be out for another year or two right? That's the only one I haven't gotten and not sure when I'll get them.
Yes I am a girl and a movie collector :)

^ Yup, Monster Inc. went quietly to the Disney Vault. It will be release again in 2013 on DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray.

They might as well have been Diamond editions though. Sleeping Beauty had a restoration process that was the same quality as Lady and the Tramp.

I think your correct, however every movie has been scanned in 4K so I'm pretty sure they can go back to all of the prints and restore them in 4K whenever they want to.

Or just start from scratch since the scan was for a new safety negative
