The Nikkatsu Erotic Films Collection

In addition to excellent noir films (see Criterion's Eclipse series thread here, and the Nikkatsu noir box set here), the Nikkatsu studio also produced quite a few erotic/exploitaion films. Synapse Films/Impulse Pictures have started releasing some of them.

This thread is dedicated to keeping track of the Nikkatsu erotic films collection.


The Collection

Do you have any of these, Pro-B? I keep reading reviews that say the discs are of stellar quality, but so far, there doesn't seem to be a consensus on which of the ones that came out so far is the "best", if you will.

I've picked up a couple and they all appear to be quite similar. The jail theme in one of the films is more elaborate, but you should probably check this out:

Looks like I know where to start with these now, since this one is on BD:



I'm really surprised Nikkatsu would allow Synapse to put a Blu-ray out, especially with Japan sharing Region A. The Japanese DVD editions are largely OOP and fetch crazy prices, so this Blu-ray would be a steal for parallel importers.

Don't forget the Nikkatsu Roman Porno Trailer Collection, it was released about a year prior to the first releases in this collection and has many of the trailers for the films as well as some that won't be released. The Nikkatsu Roman Porno Collection was the original name for this line, but amazon wouldn't stock them with that name so they changed it to the Nikkatsu Erotic Film Collection.

I ****in' LOVE Nikkatsu and Japanese film in general. Especially Imamura's films, for both studios. Can we just agree the Japanese RULE at everything, the culture is really something special. I'd really like to see some Toei releases on here, like Female Convict Scorpion!!!
