I contacted Mitci head quarters and ask for a replcement bulb they send me one FOB this is the last bulb we installed over 1 1/2 yrs ago, We play the tv all the time, Sorry you have issues with any of these TV's next one will be a 92 in

Mitsubishi and other TV manufacturers use third party bulbs. They don't necessarily make their own bulbs. The best bulbs are made by Philips. They are slightly more expensive, but worth the price. There are some dealers on Ebay who sell Philips bulbs.

I can't agree nor disagree with you BigD as I have no experience with Phillips bulbs.

Here is what I do have experience with regarding bulbs.

My old 50" (Phillips)Magnavox DLP HDTV had an Osram bulb , which lasted the expected life for each of the 2 bulbs I put in it. Go figure Phillips brand TV with someone else's bulb.

My current Mitsubishi DLP also has an Osram bulb in it, which I just replaced not to long ago after over 5000 hours of usage.

my grand parents had a 46" sony DLP and they had it on so much the bulbs would last like 9 months until they'd have to dump 150 bucks on another bulb. finally they came to their senses and bought an lcd so they didn't have to buy new bulbs almost every year. Their's was a first generation one, not sure how far they have come, but it had a real dull and soft picture on it.

I got a Mits 73 back in 2006 or so and I will say that TV was problematic but I got the 82 almost 2 years ago and its been a dream. So I think they have made improvements to the quality of their televisions.

I know a few people who have gotten Mits tvs the past 2 years and I haven't heard any issues. The tvs look great and the 3D is amazing on DLP tvs.

I don't understand why all the bashing on Mitsubishi DLP's is all about. I'm pretty sure you knew about the bulb replacement when you bought the tv. You apparently liked the performance of the tv when you purchased it cause you didn't return it. So stop complaining about it now.

I bought an 82" last year as the value for the buck was much greater than buying a similar sized LCD or LED... With the 3D it looks amazing

Only issue I had was the picture was noticeably off for the first few days until I contacted CS and did a system reset... works like a charm since

We've had our 65 inch for about a year and a half, and I just got the 3D apparatus about six months ago. Could not be happier with it. Picture is great.

I had the 50" version of that TV and there is no bulb, which is the ONLY reason I bought it to begin with.

Are you sure it doesn't have a bulb? I was told mine had one but that the LED DLP bulbs had a lifetime many times longer than regular DLP bulbs.

I know one thing it doesn't have is a color wheel which on regular DLPs can cause a rainbow effect.

Everything I've heard is that there is no one replaceable bulb but the LED engine that should last as long as any LCD TV, up 60,000+ hours I believe

Yeah, probably I heard someone call the LED engine a "bulb."

I wouldn't have gotten a DLP that wasn't an LED.

one of my coworkers asked for advice, i told him mitsubishi dlp was the way to go, he bought a 50" dlp. guess what? not even ayear after he had his he had to replace his bulb. but it was under warranty so he got new bulb replacement for free. this kind of coincedence with their bulbs is a little upsetting to say the least.
i really find it hard to believe that i have to pay $250 a year to watch tv( replacing freakin bulbs) when there are litterally thousands of people with their trusty 25" console tv's still working after 25 years or more......

so no thank you mitsubishi, anyone reading this and contemplating getting one of their tv's, better rethink their decision,

There's no bulb, but there are three high-power LED (Phatlight) assemblies. They *should* last 40-50,000 hours, although my red LED died after about 3 years. Looking at the assembly, and from the repair guy's comments about "it's always the red one", I suspect the relatively short lifespan on those is due to a poor thermal management design. The red LED appears to be at the backside of the whole assembly, likely getting the least amount of cool air from the fan.

I had that set repaired and it was 'perfect' again - had I known the LED was the issue (some more searching would have gotten me there, perhaps), the LED engine parts are readily available and easy to replace (~$140).

Half-correct. They don't have a color wheel, instead they flash the three LEDs in sequence to produce the same effect without the mechanical components. But the sequential color fields are what cause the rainbow effect - they can still be seen on LED-based DLPs, but are much, much harder to detect. The LEDs are likely cycled faster than the color wheels - the faster the switching between colors, the less time your eye has to move and "see" the individual colors.

I could easily see the rainbow effect on certain images easily on my old color wheel set, I have to really try hard to see one on the LED, and even then, the effect is difficult to detect (the lines of the rainbow are very close together).
