Now, if you are planning on selling your Plus to fund the purchase of the new sub. Then, I would recommend go for the Ultra. Of course, down the road when more funds are available, you can add a second Ultra to your room. |

Hey everyone, I was thinking about ordering a pair of PB-12's and wanted to run this by those who have more experience than I do. I have read that the ported subwoofers are better for HT, but how much would I be missing out on if I went with a pair of SB-13's as opposed to the PB-12's? Thanks in advance everyone.

As for looking for a good subwoofer for HT, one of the things you want to look for is how low can the sub go. Being able to go below 19hz is great for HT. This subject can go far deeper, I’m just keeping it simple. Main Theater Setup:
(Panasonic 65" HDTV) (Onkyo 5008) (Onkyo M-282) (PS3 Slim 250gb)(XBOX360 4GB) (Monitor Audio - RX2's - (4)RXFX - RX CENTER) (SVS - (2)PB12 Plus) (Harmony 1100) (Monster HDP-2400) Bedroom Setup: (Samsung LN40B610) (Onkyo 805) (Sony BDP-S570)(Monster HDP-1800) (Klipsch - F2's - C2 - Quintet III's) (Personal built 10" Sub) (Harmony 880) |

I've asked the same question and have asked SVS about it too. Seems like the answer was more output from the Plus. May depend on the size of your room and what you are looking to det out of them. I have a Plus and am running it in sealed mode now because I have thought about adding a SB13 too. I like the sound of the sealed sub and the giant Lycan scene from Underworld was still har hitting. Music I like better as well but I will probably go with another Plus after saying all of that. I do reserve the right to change my mind in the future.

Thanks for the replies gents. I really like the idea of the subs being able to go as low as possible, and I don't think I would ever really need the level of output the ported subs can dish out, at least not anytime soon. I was merely looking at the SB-13's for the size, and of course their sound quality. Kind of like the need it and not have it versus having it and not needing it philosophy...

Your iPhone meter may not be as sensitive at the low frequencies, so your readings may be inaccurate.

Hi folks, does anyone have any experience with the SB1000 compact sub? At $499 it is a tempting choice. I have also thought about the SVS SB12, which is $200 more. I have a 14x20 rooom and the sub will primarly be used for movies, with occasional music. I have Veritas 6.2 towers and center. Thanks!
