Oh yeah, I also replaced my Sony Blu-ray mega changers (the 7000ES) with an Oppo 103 because the mega changers jammed 2 times in less than 2 years. I got sick of taking them out of the rack, removing my movies and then sending it in to be fixed. My old pioneer doesn't play all the movies now a days. No more updates.
Those are some nice upgrades dib2! I must admit I know next to nothing about streaming audio, NAS and/or DAC's, but it seems that many audiophiles are moving into that direction. When are you expecting to take delivery of your new Bryston gear?

Rich, those are some serious planned upgrades!
Yep! Although we'll see this time next year how many (if any!) of the planned upgrades actually come to fruition... ;-)

Yep, I'll be at CES. Not interested in investing any more $$$ into digital though, because I have only so much $$$ to spare and I'd rather put that towards improving my analogue system. (Although I do have plans for a smaller system that will double as a home theatre...)

I could never "get" the Wilson mystique. I heard the Audio Watt Pupps many moons ago and it sounded so disjointed. It was in a well treated room powered by Classe Mono Blocks and Separates. But to each his own I guess... There are plenty of speakers in the 20-50k range, each having their own strength and weaknesses. I do like the Magico Q5 and the Dynaudio Consequence UE but I know it's more than 50k and it requires an amp with a lot of balls to power them...
Yeah, there's definitely lots of interesting choices in the $50K level, and I'll certainly be auditioning as many of them as I can when I'm closer to being able to put down the cash.

Should be here in about a week or 2. The Bryston gear doesn't stream music but it allows you to use USB drives or connect a SSD drive internally or externally. Right now I have a 1.5 TB mechanical HDD (2 x 750 in raid 0 2.5") connected via USB. I think that they gave in on the BDP-2 and allow you to stream via DLNA but I don't know if that is to or from. I have no interest in trying to stream one way or the other. Just being able to put a 512 GB SSD inside is a plus but I am going to wait since SSD's have a limited life.

The cool thing is that the bryston uses MPD (Music Player Daemon) which is open source so I can create my own app to control the device or use any app out there already.

Savvy listening. Probably because Wilson sources its drivers from other companies and doesn't design its own, and also doesn't use an anechoic chamber to test its products. You should see the measurements on its new 200k flagship. Stereophile just reviewed them in the same issue as a $600 Aperion bookshelf that, short of bass extension, actually measured better than the Wilson! Shocking stuff. That said there are a lot of great speakers to be had under 50k. Revel, Dynaudio, Magico, Vivid, Focal to name just a few...

If all goes well (e.g. no lightning strikes, etc.) I won't be spending anything on audio equipment this year.

I purchased an upgraded Oppo BDP 105 and some HDMI cables to go with it. I also plan on adding some shielding and damping and possibly some additional upgrades some of existing equipment.

So far this year I've only added 3 pieces of hardware (the Fostex Supertweeters and the Asus Essence+H6 soundcard/dac). However I've gotten rid of 7 pieces of hardware in my system - most of which have been replaced by software.

I'd like to try a DIY sealed sub experiment, it all depends on if I get the proper materials...it's just an experiment - I'm very satisfied with my current subwoofers. Part of me wants to see if I can create a dipole monster sub (2 15's per sub).

Opps...I have to recant and say that I've added at least 2 other pieces of hardware - an iMM-6 measurement mic and an UMM-6 USB measurement mic.

I just purchased a new receiver (Onkyo 616) since my old HTIB went dead a few weeks (yes, it's been that long since I haven't watched a loud movie) so that's already $400. I'm also looking for a sub under $200 (Polk preferably) and hopefully in two more months, a couple more speakers to complete my bedroom's corner where all this will be at.

By the way, any suggestions on speakers to pair with the Onkyo receiver are always welcome.

Well, as the insurance bird flies (as I've had to travel down that road before). I have total replacement (i.e. the new versions of my current gear). For my audio in my HT alone - that would put me at just $20k (that's with my decreased setup).

I think most people here know my big purchase was my Focal's, but I also picked up a bunch of cables - power, interconnects, speakers - and of course my lovely Oppo. Its been a big year for audio, and I'm still trying to get an amp the complete the set-up.

This was another year of used and closeout items for me.

First, I purchased one last used Mackie HR824mkII studio monitor for use as a center channel. Now I'm running three identical Mackies up front for a uniform soundstage. At a seating distance of around 10 feet they have more than enough power to hit reference level.

Next, I found a demo'd Onkyo SC-PR5508 for around $700. It was so much less than the last used 5508 or Integra 80.2 sold online I had to jump right there. Totally unplanned.

Finally, I purchased five sets of balanced XLR cables to run from the Onkyo to the Mackies.

Total for the year, around $1150.

... next year... a proper sub-woofer.

Im a bit late to the party, but some big changes are happening. 1. New display, Samsung 8500 64" plasma. 2. New processor. Krell Foundation. 3. A pair of Rel 528 subs. So the Halcro will sit in the closet along with the FB 210 sub..4 Oppo 103.
