Default Is PS2 still worth buying?

I skipped the 2nd playstation generation at the time. but with all the hd collection, is getting a ps2 now still worth it?

if yes, what ps2 games do you think that justify getting a console this late? (great games that won't likely get a ps3 release)

it's still an excellent system with great games especially if you like rpgs. The final fantasy series and dragon quest 8 were some of my favorite games

Absolutely worth buying a PS2. The Baldur's Gate and Champions of Norrath RPG series are worth the system purchase alone. Buying used PS2 games on Half.com is a steal, and you can also play most PS1 games.

To add on to what everyone else said, it's definitely worth buying. You have the benefit of already having access to so many classics for usually cheap prices (if you buy used anyway).

If you buy a PS2, and have a pretty good PC, you can be able to play PS2 games in HD. An emulator called PCSX2 allows you to play PS2 games in higher resolutions than what you'll get on a normal PS2. It can actually look better than many of the PS2 "Remastered" games depending on your hardware.

They only discontinued making the PS2 in Japan. Elsewhere it is still being made.

if you can find them cheap for PS3 that would better
I have decided to replace some games like DMC (1-3) with the HD Collection and some excellent DL only such as OdinSphere

I would get a good PS1 (the first model that many would claim to be an audiophile CD player) to play PS1 games since I'm on my 2nd PS2 phat and I've always had problems with the launch playing PS1 games. Also PS3 can play them better but I have to an old school one for at least X-Files 4CD.

if you can find cheap PS2 games then buy as many as you can they're fun

you can always find something random but if its rare that means it'll cost ya a pretty penny

Yes, especially if you're in JRPGs. It's cheap enough to justify buying this point even though so many of the games are being ported over to other consoles.

I've still got 2 ps2 consoles in my house, plus a backwards compatible 60gb ps3, with over 40 of the best ps2 games, so there is no way I would ever not own a ps2.
Setup:
Panasonic th-p65vt60a tv, Sony str-da5300es avp/pre-amp, Emotiva xpa-2 & xpa-5 amps, Dali Concept: 10 (fronts) 2 (rears x4) & centre speakers, 2x SVS pb13-ultra subwoofers, Oppo bdp-105 Blu-ray player/DAC (region free), Onkyo c-s5vl sacd player, Panasonic dmr-bwt835 1tb hdd/Blu-ray recorder, Xbox One & 360 250gb s, Sony PS4 & PS3 60gb, Cyron lighting & htw1000 controller, Samsung s2 1tb hdd, SurgeX sx1210rli surge protector/power conditioner x3, Logitech Harmony 1100i remote

Maybe the last one I saw was the PS2 slim I bought about 2 or 3 years ago in Texas as backup but since then I can't even remember seeing any.

At some point it will be compeltely out of production even for games but until that day come long live LIVE IN YOUR WORLD PLAY IN OURS. I still have my t-shirt though I can't wear it now

Kingdom Hearts is already confirmed to be released on the ps3.. otherwise, I wouldn't even ask this question, I'm dying to play this series!

I decided to buy a ps2, even though I don't have a list of games that I want to play now, but the console is pretty cheap and I don't want to regret not getting one if the console and games disconnected (like how people are charging 200$ for ps1 games now)

Kingdom Hearts 2 wasn't confirmed for a PS3 release. And I also recommend Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2005).

They do still sell PS2 new, but usually something you either have to ask an employee or a good search of the store. Like I was in Target not to long ago and was looking around the gaming section and found a PS2 hidden where most people wouldn't notice it.

I find it really weird I can still find brand new PS2 games in Walmart.

At one point I was at a walmart that had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games all at once. Of course the prices were ridculous at the time and luckily I waited for Legend of Mana to come down in price but they pulled them first for a few months. Next time I checked that walmart it was back on the shelf and I grab 2 but I ended up selling since I rarely play PS 1 games these days and collecting is almost stopped for games unless it's an anime game I must have or something.
