BD Drive not recognizing Blu-ray anymore

Yes, amazon uk does offer free shipping to India and I get almost everything from there these days. The only Blu-rays I get from the US are tv shows which are not available in the UK(like The Big Bang Theory & Chuck) or if the packaging of a favorite show/movie is inferior(like the Star Wars Saga or Superntual, which doesn't have foil covers in the UK). Which shipping option do you choose when importing from the US? Till now, I haven't tried anything other than Priority which arrives in four days.
Anydvd hasn't caused me any conflicts till now and also I have a dual monitor setup(the LCD and the projector) and I can't play a blu-ray without Anydvd removing the protection.

Blu-rays are expensive in India as well. A single disc movie costs around 40$ and a double disc(with bonus features) costs around 50$. The prices never change, they are always sold at full retail price! Not to mention sometimes the bonus features are removed from single disc editions( I bought Casino Royale on Blu and it didn't have any bonus features even though they were specified on the cover.)

That's exactly what I thought about Sony. Samsung and LG drives are popular and seeing how well my LG Dvd drive has performed over the last few years, I went with that. Btw, I'm not going to upgrade the firmware of my LG drive. If everything is working perfectly, what's there to update? The risk of disrupting a perfectly working drive isn't worth it for me.

On second thought I should have gone with an LG drive in the first place. Honestly, the only reason I went with the Samsung Drive was the glossy look and the blue LED.

I went thru the same excercise and it worked perfect.. i spent hours on internet and driver/os/sw updates.... finally wiped the lens with my tshirt... and no more issues...

I guess it depends on the cause of the problem you were experiencing, neoramesh. I wish all drive or driver problems were so easy to fix!

My LG drive is still retained by Customs as the marketplace seller didn't provide the necessary documents.

This is gonna take a while so in the meantime I ordered another drive from the US via DHL express and it arrived yesterday.
I installed it and I can finally play all my Blu-rays again.

It hasn't stuttered at 24p yet.

My Lite-On drive just started doing the same thing. It stopped reading Blu-ray, but will still read DVD. I opened it up, wiped off the laser lens, and it still won't read. So I guess I'm in the market for a new drive, which ones do you guys recommend? I'm looking at a Samsung drive that got very good reviews.

Since the Samsung SH-B083L was the source of my woes, and the problem disappeared when I replaced it with an LG BH10LS30, I'm going to say the LG is the way to go!

But that's one subjective case, of course.

Newegg has the Samsung model SH-B123 and two LG models, and they all get good reviews. Just close my eyes and see which one my finger lands on? lol

Any thing has to be better than Lite-On, I had constant problems with it since the day I installed it, and now it has quit on me entirely.

Go with an LG drive. I have two of them now( the other one got released by customs) and they work perfectly. My Samsung drive stopped reading blu rays after a a few months and even when it was working it used to stutter quite a bit. Go with an lg one.

users should sue companies like Acer, Asus and Sony for put such sh*ty BD players on their systems. they're bound to break after a while and I talk from experience. My sister bought a laptop a few years back, so did my cousin. they both had the similar, if not the same, BD drive. non can read BDs now. it must be a problem with the laser...

Exact same problem with my Acer. Trouble happened after windows updated drivers etc. No way of gettin it to work and I've tried everything short of completely wiping my computer and doing a fresh instal. Which I'm not going to do just to fix a problem that should never have happened ****ing shitty bastard updates!

Go to Control Panel > Devices (or device manager, whichever name you see) > Look for the section for DVD drives/BD drives and double click it.

Right click on your acer drive and click uninstall.

At the top of this same devices window, click on 'search for new devices' icon.
This will install the default drivers for your drive. If you can't perform this step, simply restart your computer instead.

i have the same problem, i have vaio vpcec1s1e with optiarc 5500s4 and corel win dvd 2010
it too will only play dvd's, any attempt to do so with a bd is followed by a brief droning noise as it attempts to read, followed by a faint clicking - the laser head i think

this is my only blu ray player and i too have a lot of blu ray, which are well paper weights now

i have tried wiping, to no avail

Yeah, that sucks. I suggest you get a separate BD player (either standalone or a PS3). You can find the newest PS3 for 110 pounds right now

Sorry for this off-topic question, but I've just registered and cannot start a thread yet, so I am asking it here.

Last month I bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite S875d-S7239 laptop with Windows 7 preinstalled.
It's got a Blu-ray drive along with the Toshiba Blu-ray Player software preinstalled.
I have downloaded the critical (that's the way Toshiba calls it) Blu-ray Player software update (October 2012),
which included a new AACS Key Update.
I've also installed the Tohiba's last update released on December 27, 2012.


I've bought (used)



The package contains one blu-ray disc and two dvd discs.
The two dvd discs play fine, however I cannot play the blu-ray disc at all:




What's the problem here? Any advices would be appreciated.

See that Green "G" symbol on the disc. That disc is from another country although I cant place the country right now. Although the disc shows it's Region A,B,C (or all region) could it be possible that it's not actually region free?

EDIT: That disc is from the Australian release.

Also which blu-ray player software came preinstalled and what's the version number. Usually, the preinstalled software is an older version which is why OEMs provide it free with the computer. It's possible the AACS keys are pretty old, even if it's a new release from Toshiba, and thus may not play the disc. Have you tried using a newer version of software?

'The Smurfs' Blu-ray Disc played fine on my friend's standalone Blu-ray Disc player.

Yesterday, I successfully played the original 'Happy Feet' (2007) on Blu-ray Disc without any problems.

Now, the Toshiba's Blu-ray Disc Player's update was released on October 4, 2012: V1.0.3.188_A
That is Version 1.0.3.188_A
(This update contains a new AACS key, which is required ...)


There was also an update on December 27, 2012, but it did not mention any AACS key.

Ok, this disc is also BD-Live enabled. Try disabling the BD-Live and clearing the persistent memory from the player's menu. I have the 3D release and don't remember off the top of my head how long this title took to initially load but some titles can take a bit longer to load. Performing the two steps above should help with any long load times.

When I get a chance I'll check my disc to see how long it takes to load on my player.

I don't think that I can disable BD-Live.

When I insert 'The Smurfs' Blu-ray disc the following message is displayed.

"While playing a BD-J title, keyboard shortcut and mouse operation are ineffective."

x Don't ask me again

So, I click on the 'OK button'.

Then I get (in capital letters):

RESUME PLAYBACK?

x YES NO

(Note that the 'YES' is checked.)
I click on the 'YES button' but it is inactive. No response.

The Panel with

Play Movie | Languages Scene Selection | Special Features | Get Now on BD-Live

is inaccessible. - It's visible behind a thick veil. - I cannot click on anything.

The Control Panel with Play/Pause, Fast Forward, etc is inaccessible either -
it's visible behind a thick veil and I cannot click on anything except for:

Eject Button (which ejects the Blu-ray disc),
and Title Menu, Top Menu (I can click on them), but they do nothing.

I can also resize the Blu-ray window, and access Help and Read Me and Settings.

But the Settings do not have anything related to BD-Live.
Here are some settings:
Resume
OSD
Blu-ray Region

Dolby DRC
Dual Mono
Blu-ray Parent Control

On top of that I have two questions.

1. Is there any free Blu-ray Disc player which would play 'The Smurfs'?
2. Is there any Blu-ray Disc version of 'The Smurfs' without the BD-Live?
