Check the price on that one (and it's 1TB sibling) and you'll see it's not even an option.

Flash is much more expensive that physical media. BD is the most viable platform right now.

I dont want to upgrade to 4K discs i've just started collecting blu rays so i cant see myself buying another format.

Well, I tried to adjust your expectations in regards to counting on an announcement at CES for a 4K disc with increased space and 4K specifications.

Don’t feel badly Sap, this is a process which demands patience, because for one thing, there are many players involved. The good thing is that 4K was undeniably ‘thee topic” of CES 2013. Several consumer electronics companies introduced 4K tvs (and not just behemoth sizes) and with all the inherent marketing spiel, they now have a substantial vested interest/investment in the format, i.e. UHD. The onus is now on the content creators and providers to come through and offer native 4K to really make the C.E. companies’ respective 4K displays shine to their greatest potential.

Even, the marketing of the “Mastered in 4K” has an upside , despite the fact that some emphasize it as being a *ploy* to unwary consumers, for, even it, enhances the visibility of ‘4K’ which may well have filmmakers and producers now thinking twice as to settling for anything less than 4K acquisition and 4K post, if they desire to have their creations be as *future-proof* as possible.

i.e….Uninformed producer to other uninformed producer –

“Hey, there’s a major Hollywood studio that is offering “Mastered in 4K” Blu-rays now to consumers in their home to watch on their Blu-ray players and you still think we shouldn’t pop a little extra dough for a 4K D.I. since the D.P. has already chosen the RED Epic, Sony F65, etc. to shoot with?”

If there is a bottleneck, that will be the BDA.

Well, I must admit that when I looked into my crystal ball, I never saw that result coming over City plus, over the course of time, you’ve turned me into somewhat of a Sunderland supporter . I really feel for all you guys who fight near the bottom of the table in order to stay out of the relegation zone. It’s especially much more interesting this year than the top of the table where I think Man United has already run away with the title.

Speaking of my crystal ball…but in regards to HEVC and 4K (practical 4K hardware solutions for commercially viable data rates, that is). I dislike making timeline predictions because they often are dependent upon multiple factors, of which neither I, nor anyone else for that matter, has control over. But if I had to comment, I would say that with sample silicon available right now, then systemization of said silicon should be available in the first half of 2014 to all those companies wishing to build their respective video decoder boxes and players.

Of course, all this is pending the upstream politics gets sorted out, which I think it will (through the MPEG LA), despite the somewhat gloomy outlook of this article…

Whatever. I hope they take the time and choose the right standards. I guess no 4KBD in PS4? They could use it to stream 4K actually.
