I guess Dredd does not like Sony players, lol. Tried to play this disc in my S570 and my S590 and both said "Cannot read disc" and then it went to the menu and it had "Unknown?" at the menu screen for its title. The S590 kept trying to read the disc but it eventually failed. The S570 did not try as much as the S590 and it quickly failed. I checked the updates on both and both are up to date. I played another 3D disc on both players and both loaded and played fine. On the S590 however.... after the 3D movie was over ( IMAX Born To Be Wild), I noticed the player making a spinning humming sound. It has never done that before and it did not do it while Born To Be Wild was playing....only after it was over. Weird.
I have a sneaky suspicion that the fact that the Dredd disc has both the 3D and 2D versions AND the ultraviolet and digital copy all on one disc may be the problem here. Dredd was packaged only with one disc inside...this is correct, right? I even tried to load it in my PS3 and it would try but it never recognized it and the disc and title never appeared on the PS3 start up/main menu. Thought and suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Bought Dredd Blu-ray: Cincinnati, OH Bought at: Best Buy (Fields Ertel location) Won't play on: Sony S570, Sony S590, Sony PS3 320GB There are no players that I own that this disc will play on. All players up to date with latest firmware.

Try updating your firmware if you haven't already. If that doesn't work, you more than likely have a defective disc. I played my copy on my PS3 without any problems. I also watched it on my parents Toshiba (first Gen circa 2009) and there were no problems either.

Doesn't work in my Oppo either. But the 2D does.

To help identify quality control problems in the industry, verifying a Bad Batch from the distribution sources of Dredd would require the following information:
1) Area Dredd (BD 3D + BD + Digital copy + Ultraviolet) was purchased? 2) Name of store? 3) Name and model of the player the disc won't play on? 4) Name and model of any player found the same disc does play on? Hope the answers will help for future authoring problems. Paul Edit: Suggest Taygan315 posts the questions in the first post location for maximum response.

Had no problem playing the 3D version in my S590. Perhaps there is just a bad batch of discs. I also purchased mine at Best Buy.

Purchased my copy at Best Buy and it wasn't recognized by my PS3 with the lastest firmware. I even tried it on my desktop PC with an LG Blu-ray drive and PowerDVD12 with no luck (drive would spin but eventually would not recognize the disc).
I exchanged the disc for another copy and the same behaviors persisted. I actually looked at the regular DVD sku and thought about it. Not sure if I should sit tight with this copy hoping a solution comes up or if I should just get a refund.

I'm having the same issue you have Mad Setter. Disc spins and tries to load (my S590 tried several times to load as did my PS3, but neither could not recognize the disc. Why didn't they just sell a stand alone 3D blu, 2D blu, and a stand alone dc instead of putting them all on one disc?!?! I seem to remember Lionsgate having issues with Crank 2 as well. Had to download a firmware to play that disc....even on the PS3 which is usually very dependable running new releases with no problems. I'm going to exchange it at BB (where I bought mine as well), open it in store, and have them play in one of their 3D players just to make sure. May even have them play it in several players and the PS3. Can't do this though til Friday. My local BB is a bit of a trip and I go there when I'm off work to get the new releases.

I wonder if its the authoring/security code on the disc that is causing this? Again....I REALLY don't know why Lionsgate could not just put each version of Dredd on their OWN SEPERATE DISCS instead of putting them all on one disc!! Save $$ I suppose.....maybe I will save MY $$ and get a refund, lol. Frustrating as hell. ![]()

Had the same dredd disc problems on my PS3 so I exchanged it today at bestbuy while picking up some other titles with upgrade and save. Just tried the new disc and it also wont play. Going to give it a week to see if lionsgate releases any updates.

Weird how some work fine while others won't play at all. That has "bad batch" written all over it....USUALLY.
