Are you talking about Insignia brand or other brands?

The first page of this post list all the Insignia brands that can be made region free and those that can not.

From what I heard BB has stopped making blu ray players so whatever is left is all your going to get as far as Insignia brand. You'd just have to Google I guess to see what can be made region free.

All they are us a wholesaler. They bought them from Best Buy in bulk

Did you get it yet? How you like it? I'm holding out thinking about an oppo when tax time comes. Just gives me all the options I need...Its high priced but in the long run I think it will be worth it. I don't understand why the insignia line died out. Did anyone consider taking them over or any talks of a return? Would be sweet if they had a 3d player.

I got it yesterday. All in all, for $50, its a pretty decent player. The player already had the region free firmware loaded onto it out of the box, but I tried to watch Taken 2 and it started to lock up. Before I blamed the player completely, I updated the firmware (knowing it can be downgraded) and the problem was resolved. I just hope that after I do a downgrade I wont have any issues with region B playback.

you can look through my collection and I have had ZERO problems playing a region B on mine (I have 4 Insignia players) also playing PAL DVDs arent a problem!

1st, you cant even compare the Oppo to the Insignia...its two completely different players


2nd, the Insignia ISNT a region free player officially. Its just a version of the firmware had a code that you can't type on the remote to open the regions up. And its NOT a hack its an officially released firmware

Played fine on my NS-BRDVD4. Try cleaning the disc, there have been a few reports of an oily substance on some copies. If that doesn't work you may have a bad disc that needs to be exchanged.

I got the UK disc which has playback problems on many players. I was wondering if the US disc (or otherwise) had the same problems or not.

My copy of Germany region-B Expendables-2 steelbook will not play (won't load the manual.)

Cannot tell if it is disc problem, or it's time to look for another region-free player.
