does anyone know if the wi-fi on the S570 has been fixed yet? I read a review of the player that said everything was great, but that streaming netflix was not the greatest. I was wondering if sony released a firmware update to take care of these issues. THanks

Just found out that the s470 can play .mkv SBS 3d files
looked pretty good.
Now running in 3D with the LG Cinema 3D (nominally showing 3D in 1080i per eye) 47LW6500 (up-or-down-or-side-graded from a 50" Sammy 3D Plasma) and a Benq W1070 and a 100" screen, and controlling it with a Harmony 880.

I purchased the Sony BDP-S580 for $99, new from Crutchfield as a Christmas gift for my sister. Now I'm a bit confused with this player. For as long as I can remember Sony has put a optical connection on there devices. But not this player!!! It has a digital coaxial out instead. Why oh why did they do this? Can someone shed some light on this?

The only reason this bothers me is that the HTiB has Optical and no Coax.

After previously owning 3 Panny Blu Ray players I just purchased my first Sony Blu Ray player the BDP-S590. After extensive research on AVS I choose the Sony 590 over the new Panny 320. This is our first network Blu Ray player. I have yet to do any real testing, but it took a while to hook up the Wifi, (not to computer savy!) but after that everything appears to be going well with the player. You Tube came up no problem and later today we will sign up for Netflix. I have one SACD, Pink Floyds "Dark Side Of The Moon" and was blown away by the detail and surround matrix on this disc. Will do some testing with Blu Ray discs later today.

Picked up the S590 at Target for under a hundred today, used my Target Red Card and got a discount. Gonna set it up tomorrow and give my thoughts of it then. It took some time but finally got it.

Ok I set it all up and watched my first Blu ray on it (I Am Legend) and here is my thoughts on the S590. First setup was a breeze, it found my wifi easy. I was pleasantly surprised to see Vudu my favorite streaming site on there plus other app's that werent on my S570. I tried out the Internet Browser and it worked! Pulled up a bunch of sites so I am happy there. Last time I used a feature like that was on the PS3 my freind loaned me. Will I use it? More then likely not. Now onto playing my first movie on it. The PQ is superb if you ask me and the load time isnt really as fast as my S570 but its not a major deal to me. Audio? I really cant say because I run Audio through my Samsung Soundbar which dont deliever that full surround sound experience that I enjoy so I really cant comment on the audio until I get an AVR next month. That all being said was the S590 worth it and is it a good Blu ray player? Yep it was worth it and in my book its a damn good player. Glad I bought it.

I picked up an S5100 last night. The important thing for me is that it does have access to the Netflix 3D streams.
It's actually not as bad as the cases of the S3100 and S1100 I had previously seen. It seems more sturdy and solid than those. The cases of the S1100 and S3100 would easily bend in when I pressed on them in the store. It seems fairly quick with BD playback. I watched the second 3D disc of the Hobbit last night on the S5100. The picture quality seemed excellent. (I had watched the first disc the previous night on my Panny BDT220 player). I was surprised with the Amazon and Hulu+ apps. They seem rather outdated compared to what is available on other devices. Hopefully they get updated. I also like that the VUDU 3D will output in 1080P unlike the PS3 which is limited to 3D in 720P from the apps. The BD drive was louder than I would have expected. But it could be more noticeable because I have the player at a temporary location which is on a high surface and it's also not a hard surface. Although when viewing a BD you can't hear it over the soundtrack. Last edited by aaronwt2065; 03-23-2013 at 01:10 PM. |
