So I have had my st30 for a week or 2 now and the picture is fantastic. My problem is I am noticing motion blur. I have tried tinkering with all the settings (ie motion smoother etc...) with minimal difference but I need to figure out weather to keep this TV or return it.

The motion lag usually shows during close up head shots. Its odd because its not necessarily a fast motion scene.

Is this potentially a defect that can be fixed by a replacement TV?

My old entry level plasma never had a problem with reaction time so I was very surprised this is an issue

I viewed this TV in stores for months before purchase and never noticed anything.

What do you guys think?

I would change the 3:2 Pulldown to Auto, but it's grayed out every time I bring up the menu. I don't know what to do to get to access that setting.

I must emphasize these are the settings that suit my taste in my room. I started with the settings recommended by D-Nice for the current ST30 and then tweaked from there. My primary goal was for skin colors to look natural and everything else pretty much fell into place from there.

I've had my 50" ST30 since March. I noticed the motion judder on my tv fairly quickly when watching movies, so I thought there was a problem with my tv.... just like you're describing. Long story short, what you and I are seeing is 24p in it's native form. There is no problem with our tv's. I had a Panasonic rep come to my house to check out the "problem", and there was no problem with the tv at all. It's the nature of the beast. I had an older Panasonic plasma from 2006 that was 720p and obviously couldn't produce 24p. So, just like with your older plasma, I never saw this problem. That's because those older tv's aren't 24p, or, 24 frames per second capable. What we're seeing is how film really is. Our eyes can detect the motion judder from 24 frames per second because it's simply too slow to be smooth.

When I did all my homework before I bought my ST30, which was months of studying, I never heard or came across this "issue". I was absolutely positive that this was the tv I wanted, as i've always liked Panasonic tv's. It had everything I wanted for a great price. But it took just a short time of owning my ST30 to see the judder. If I had known about this issue before I bought my tv, I would have second guessed my purchase. I still love my tv, but it does suck when I see that motion judder. My old plasma NEVER did that, but I wanted an upgrade of a tv in size and performance. So, there's nothing you can do to fix it, because there's nothing to fix. But if I were you, i'd put the motion smoother to "off".

anyone have any experience with a smaller panasonic LCD? I've turned off most of the correction or whatever features but I still get that soap opera look a little bit. what are the main settings that affec that? sharpness?contrast? I feel like I've made it a little better but watching The Fellowship of the Ring on blu-ray I feel like I can see where makeup is done poorly on people in the background and this is on a 32" lol

I used Disney's WOW calibration disc. It is a good disc except for the "color" and "sharpness" areas were not too helpful for me.
Go to the custom picture mode before trying these settings as the other modes do not have as many options.
Also, the settings have to be made separately for each input.

Contrast 80
Brightness 60 (The calibration disc had this at 57 but I feel I might be losing a bit of dark shadow detail when viewing normal content.)
Color 40 (This was set viewing normal content.)
Tint -1
Sharpness 12 (This setting based on averaging recommendations by others.

Color temp Warm 1 (Many people recommend warm 2)
CATS Off
Video noise reduction weak

HDMI settings:
Use defaults,

I use the same settings for over the air TV with coaxial input, Blu-ray disc player with HDMI, and VCR with (3 - r,w,y) composite (video) cables.
Room has the front door hall light which hits TV parallel to screen but is not seen directly by viewers, and usually a 30 watt (incandescent) light in the back of the room.
I changed the output of my BD player from 24 to 60 for movies and the TV from none to weak for motion smoothing.
Dark hair is also good for adjusting black levels.
Great picture for night skyline and dark water scenes, outdoor and everything else!

I've had the TX-P50VT20L model for almost 18 months and I'm still in search of picture settings that I'll be happy with. Unfortunately, I've been using the Dynamic mode from the outset, so whenever I try to change to any recommended settings, I convince myself that the loss in overall brightness is decreasing the PQ. I've even set Sharpness and P-NR at max despite reading how ill-advised that is.

I would be grateful for any advice regarding this issue.

Thanks for you post. I was also using D-Nice's settings along with several others, but nothing really looked great. I plugged in your settings, and it was a step closer.

I ended up going a little further by increasing the color to 43 and setting the HDMI content type to Photo. I watched a few movies with these settings and everything seemed to look okay to me. I'm going to keep an eye on things, but most likely I'll leave things like this now.

Does anyone, by any chance, have a Viera ET5? I picked up the L42ET5 last week during Amazon's Gold Box and I've been having a hell of a time getting good picture settings.

I've never considered myself to be overly picky, but i just cannot get skin tone correct. Everything else looks great, I've been really happy with it after a few calibrations using Disney's WOW disk. Everything looks fine and dandy there, but once I get it out into the "real world", skin tone is all over the place.

I know it changes from channel to channel, but the disparity here is pretty severe, and it occurs from my cable box, to my PS3. Artificial color (games, animation, etc) look great. Real skin just isn't cutting it.

Everything has a slightly green hue or tint, sometimes pushing into the orange or yellowish area, almost like jaundice. It's incredibly distracting and it's driving me crazy.

Anyone have any suggestions? I know the UK version of this TV has access to more advanced menus. The US version is extremely limited. The only way to gain access to the same stuff is to go through the service menu.

Should I contact Panasonic and see if it's a faulty panel? Try playing with the G-Gain in the service menu myself? I've opened it up and familiarized myself with how it works, so I'm pretty confident I won't mess anything up - I only want to play with color, not other settings.

I tuned the picture settings using the Disney WoW disc, and this is what I came out with. Disclaimer, I'm no expert and not really a videophile.

Aspect Adjustments: Use Size 2 so you aren't losing 5% of picture with overscan in Size 1
