United Kingdom The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 2013 Pre-orders

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray Steelbook

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D Blu-ray

So with the US release hitting shelves on March 19, surely we can expect the UK release on or around the same time frame.

I think I might wait for the 20 minuter longer extended cut.

Is that confirmed? Think I may be better off with theatrical. 3 incredibly long films really is pushing it - that would be sort of stretched, like...butter scraped over too much bread.

I too will hold out for the extended cut. May as well. I loved it, though I have been skeptical about the 3 movie thing, but I won't think about it too much. Just watch and enjoy

Extended version will probably arrive about 3-4 weeks before the second Hobbit film comes to cinemas.

I'll get the theatrical as I'm impatient to own it.

But then I'll want the extended edition - hopefully we get something like the book style DVD releases that came with the sideshow weta figurine.
You’re in a desert walking along when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you...you reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

Pre-orders:
The Hobbit (SB) ~ Django Unchained (SB) ~ Schindler's List (DB) ~ Finding Nemo (SB)

has an extended version been confirmed? As I was under the impression the 3rd movie was in reaction to there being so much material to edit out rather than opt for 2 extended version vs their theatrical counterparts
(Pre-)ordered: Aladdin SB / Atlantis 2 Movie Pack USA / Django Unchained SB / Lilo & Stitch 2 Movie Pack USA / The Little Mermaid US 3D
For Sale/Trade: Canadian Kill bill Steelbooks (Part 1 and Part 2)
Wanted: UK or USA iTunes code for Iron Man 1 (PM if you can help)

I remember reading SFX and Jackson being upfront about there being an extended edition later in the year before the first DVD release of Followship in early 2002, so we may get some news soon?!

He's also been upfront with the Hobbit. This interview with Peter Jackson was from December. They talk about the extended cut 1 minute 55 seconds into the interview

Yeah it seems like an extended cut is certain, I'll wait for that, if it doesn't come (or it's just a bit lame) then I'll pick up this release cheap in the run up for the next film

They've actually already cut the extended editions. 20 minutes of more footage. There's more of the Dwarves in Rivendale and the Old Took's birthday with young Bilbo for definite.

I'll be getting both versions for sure

I'm surprised this isn't hitting shelves the same time as the US one. Didn't it have the same release date in the cinemas worldwide? Thought the home release would follow suit.
My Blu-ray wish list: Roman Holiday, Cinema Paradiso (Director's cut), Before Sunrise/Sunset, Punch-drunk love, Remains of the day, The Straight story, Wallace & Gromit: The curse of the were-rabbit, The Abyss, Anatomy of a murder, Team America: World Police, The Odd Couple, The Man who wasn't there, Gods and Monsters, Judgement at Nuremberg

Yeah. If I waited for the LOTR EE Boxset, I can certainly wait for this one.

Be interesting to see if we do get it the same day as the US. The other European releases indicate an April release; however, considering the US edition contains this:

Quote:
In addition, Peter Jackson will host a live first look at “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the second film in The Hobbit Trilogy, on Sunday, March 24th at 3:00PM Eastern/Noon Pacific. Content will be streamed live and an edited version will be archived on the Trilogy’s official website. Access to the live event will be limited to holders of an UltraViolet code available by purchasing “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack or 2-Disc Special Edition DVD. Select digital retailers will issue access codes upon purchase of the film. Visit http://www.thehobbit.com/sneak/ for more information.
...it would be a bit unfair on Hobbit fans outside of the US to not be able to be part of it.
