Hmm, in the midst of the frustration with Amazon US delivery times, am I mistaken in thinking that the shipping rates have risen fairly substantially?

Doesn't look like it to me. Just did a dummy order and 3 Blu-rays cost $7.96 to ship. Still $4.99 per order plus $0.99 per item: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...&nodeId=596190

Ha-ha, shows how much attention I pay to such things! Last time I looked, I was sure the per-order shipment cost was about $3.49. (But I have no idea how long ago that was!)

(It only came to my attention because Amazon split my last shipment of three items into three packages, and charged me the full single-item shipment cost — $5.98 —on each of the three items individually. And now can't explain why.)

Sounds like you selected the "ship my items as soon as they become available" option. Check your original order email or the summary in your account to see if that's what you selected. Might have done it by accident.

If not I'd be contacting them to ask for a refund.

No mate, it was my standard selection of them shipping all in one bundle. As I said, Amazon's first response has been that they can't explain it, so they've refunded my shipping costs completely and are looking into the matter separately.

Anyway. I was sure the "per order" rate had gone up, but I guess I was wrong.

Weird. Ah well, good they resolved it quickly. A little worrying if you don't notice it though!
