Doesn't work. Title change only appears after you click into the thread.

Was this film not already an extended edition in order to stretch them into three movies?

I know the Gollum scenes were the best parts of this movie, but it's a terrible choice for a cover design/picture. (It gives away the ending??)

Nope ... Jackson already confirmed that he would be releasing an extended version (Novemeber 2013). Roughly 20 -25 mins added in fact. He plans to do an extended cut for each film too.

http://www.hypable.com/2012/12/08/ho...tion-run-time/

But I am almost 100% positive there won't be 3D versions of the extended cuts. So if you want a 3D version of the film, I would go with the 3D set. Better cover anyway.

Yeah I am passing on this since it doesn't include the 3D version. Futureshop needs to smarten up and stop releasing these inferior versions.

Some people are pissed that there's no 3D version. I'm actually very happy that there's no 3D version as I will never watch it.

FS is probably following the market. From what I've read, people aren't buying 3D TV's because it's a 3D TV...the TV just happens to have a 3D component that not a lot of people are buying into.

There's also more proof that people are losing interest in 3D. If given a choice between a 2D film and 3D film in theaters..guess which one fills up first?..It's the 2D version. People only watch the 3D version if there is no other choice.

Will probably have to buy a 4K t.v. and upgrade all of our gear by the time t.v.s that don't require 3D glasses (for 3D) are low enough in price to buy.

Don't know why you wouldn't rather have the extra disc unless it was a big difference in price. Even if you don't want it I'm sure you could sell it for a decent price. If they included it those that want it could have it, and those that don't could sell it and make their money back. Everyone wins!

In my limited experience though it seems that most of the time the 3D steelbook is always more than the 2D variant.

Some people would rather have a metal case. Not that it does anything. Agree with you 3D disc takes priority over steelbook. I don't even have a 3D display, but one day I will.

How could you be even close to positive?

The entire movie was filmed on RED Epic camera duos on 3D rigs including all of the 20-25 minutes of bonus footage that will be included in the Extended Editions of each "The Hobbit" film.

Mark my words, there WILL be a 3D release of the Extended Edition of each Hobbit film. Anything else would be both a waste of existing 3D footage and a monetary loss.

As for this release by Futureshop, while Steelbooks are nice, this isn't the Extended Edition and it doesn't include the two 3D discs, so no bueno.

The SB look great.
Now I wouldn't be surprised to see individual SBs coming for LOTR 1-3.
I would bite.
