Default Somewhat related question

I know this is not the specific thread for this but I have a semi related question. A while ago and I do mean ages, I purchased Ip Man and loved it but the subs left something to be desired to say the least. Now since then I obviously wanted to upgrade to the bluray version however I saw that Ip Man 2 on bluray was dub only which I can't stand. My questions are: do you know of any bluray versions that are bilingual for Ip Man? Also how many are there? I thought there were 4 but I'm not sure. Are all of them released in the US? Again I know this is the wrong thread but I thought I'd ask.

The U.S. Blu-ray of Ip Man 2 isn't dub-only. It has the original Cantonese audio, as well as Mandarin and English dubs. There's also a Hong Kong Blu with just the Cantonese and Mandarin tracks. Whether the English subtitles are any different, I don't know.

As for the total number of Yip Man films, there's the two Donnie Yen/Wilson Yip movies (Ip Man and Ip Man 2), then the two Herman Yau movies (The Legend Is Born and The Final Fight), which form a separate (but still very good IMO) cash-in series. The only one that's not out on U.S. Blu-ray is The Final Fight, but I imagine someone will release it eventually. Then there's The Grandmaster, which is a totally different thing that comes out in U.S. theaters next month and already has a Hong Kong BD.

Just This movie presents a more down-to-earth Ip Man compared to Donnie Yen and Tony Leung's highly stylized version. The fight scenes are well choreographed( far better than the artsy Grandmasters and in some parts better than Donnie' visceral fight scenes) and Anthony Wong's performance as Ip Man is mesmerizing( one that rivals Donnie's version) Highly recommended for martial art movie lovers and fans of the titular character.

I agree. It definitely feels more grounded in reality too. And having Anthony Wong as Ip Man is a great asset. As an older actor he definite does an amazing job, nuanced and subtle. We are currently goin through the TVB produced 50 episode series of Ip Man and I just can't get into it.

A TVB Ip Man series; had not heard of it. What is the name of it? Does it have English subs?

I saw this movie today - DVD version - and I think it was quite good actually. A bit more down-to-earth approach, and it had a more story feel to it.

It should be a China TV series (Kevin Cheng).

For all intents and purposes it is. I got it from YesAsia's TVB store. Even though a few of the actors are TVB it's pretty much a mainland production as I can tell by the pacing, writing, and over-acting. Though good to see Yuen Wah and Leung Kar Yan still be able to kick it old school.
