Scream Factory is pretty much the Criterion Collection of the horror genre.

I have a question for those owning the movie on BD:

There's a scene I noticed. When Darkman reaches the "top" of the truck where he will "attach" Durant's helicopter to cause its destruction... at a certain point, Durant fires an explosive bullet IN FRONT of the camion, but the camera shot shows the explosion happening ahead of another truck, not the truck where Darkman is "lurking" on... can you check this, please?

Exactly. If this release is the same transfer Universal used for the current Blu-ray with the DNR knob turned to 11, it doesn't matter how many bells and whistles they put on the disc, I won't buy it.

That was an old 2003/2005 HD master created for an HD DVD release.

No way they are using that. Darkman is to be given the 2k treatment, finally.

Unless Universal has sprung for a new 2K master to provide, I wouldn't expect a 2K scan. Scream may very well create a new master, but it would probably be a telecine transfer, not a 2K or 4K scan. Cliff MacMillan has said as much before.

Shout Factory- only works with what the licensors give them, they don't do new scans.
As grateful as I am for Halloween II, III, and They Live- they are just average Universal transfers that people would slam if they weren't put out by Shout Factory.
They apply tweaks to the transfers they get, but on something like The Howling or Day of The Dead- there's nothing they can do to actually meaningfully improve anything...
Not true. I supervised almost every Corman transfer and we did Deadly Blessing and Death Valley.... And I could list a lot more.
We don't do scans because they are expensive and we don't own the films.
I stand corrected and beg your forgiveness.
I am sorry.

What I meant to say is- with something already out in HD, I don't expect much improvement.
I say this because you don't do new scans.
Either way I'll buy everything you guys do- always have and will.
You can still get a great looking master from telecine. Not every studio transfer is a 2K or 4K scan.

There's a group over on Facebook (here) that's been pushing for this for some time.

(I admit that this isn't strictly a blu-ray question, as a DVD would please them, too, if the quality were there. The problem is that seasons 1 and 2 were released by CBS as the studio owned the rights, but stopped there.)

Thanks in advance for anything you can do.
Nope...and we wouldn't scan a negative for show we don't own. It's too costly.
Hey, now this gets interesting.

If both a negative and a positive were offered to you, wouldn't the scanning cost be the same? If not, what am I missing?

Second, if you don't own a show, well, okay, so you license the rights. So, you are implying the owners charge a different rate to loan a positive for a scan versus loaning a negative for a scan? Could you give us a feel for the difference in licensing costs?

Thanks for the insight. I never considered this previously.

-Jim
Any scanning costs more than doing a telecine film transfer.

I'm with you on that. I kinda bought "Terror Train" just feeling like a completest and hoping it came with a slip cover still, but it didn't and boy, what a let down the special features that did come with it were. I guess it's just going to sit with the other "Scream" titles that aren't Collector's Editions and don't have slips, because that's kind of where "Terror Train" should be considering the package it is.

I'm hoping for an all out, everything including the kitchen sink type release for "Darkman" considering, it never had a release like this before. It just really bums me out they didn't get "Army of Darkness" to coincide with it. Makes good senses, would sell tons of copies.. but whatever.

Sweet Deal! Day One!

I really hope we do get a Raimi commentary maybe even Liam will take time to talk about this film, after all it did boost his career. I wonder if the Arnold Vasloo sequels will be easter egg bonus features.....

I have been waiting 23 years for a special edition to this film. I'm happy that its Scream doing it. I hope that they go all out. Deleted scenes, interviews, commentaries, trailers, you name it. I've been so close to buying this over the years and I'm glad I waited.

Arrow is doing a smashing job as well, for region B. Big hurrah to both of these companies for really stepping up to the plate. I hope they make good returns on the stupendous efforts they have been taking for their catalog.

BUT, at this point, I think Universal has realized "Darkman" is an important jewel in the back catalogue, and maybe they will go 2k before giving the definitive master to SHOUT! Just my guess........

The Blu of Darkman actually improves on the HD-DVD and is fine how it is.
If they skimp on extras I fail to see the point bar some nice cover art

YES ! Can't wait to see what extras they can dig up.....I had posted a copy of the TV pilot on you tube a few years ago, but I was forced to take it down. It wasn't bad....

ANY remaster would be awesome...

Shout Factory has become what Anchor Bay used to be back in the day.

(Yes that's a compliment)

They are quickly becoming my favorite cult title distributor.

It's a slight improvement on the HD DVD but it is still an old master that is waxy.
