Default LCD Burn-in

Hi Everyone...

personally myself I never would have thougt this would have been possible but I believe I have witnessed burn-in on an LCD panel. Now... it is not a TV, it is an Acer 17" LCD monitor we've used on a server at work and I haven't noticed anything on the screen until lately. There is what appears to be the permament image of a login box about screen center. It doesn't matter what color you change the background... the burn-in appears to fade any color in the region and is always visible except when the screen is black.
If I can get a picture of this I will. Thankfully the monitor is just for a server.

We had three, 5 year old lcd monitors at work that we just replaced, and all had burn-in, but they were cheap panels.

I will try and get a pic for everyone... we'll see how a picture will turn out. It sure is possible. The monitor tho is an acer... so, as the cheap theory goes it still holds... hehe. As for LCD TV's... I wouldn't think it's impossible any longer... whoz to say what'll happen if u have a login screen 24/7 on a TV. Thing I noticed is that the burn-in was visible after a few months in which previously I had never noticed it. Just weird.

I've seen burn in on LCDs quite a bit; and unlike popular believe it is not impossible. Any screen, regardless of type (lcd, plasma, crt) is prone to burn-in assuming you're showing stationary images for an extended amount of time. (Granted, some types much less than others.)

On my way to work, while walking thru the tunnel system, I pass an entrance to a Marriot hotel, which has a 42inch LCD screen with event related advertisements. (mother's day, new years etc. etc.). I suspect it is running thru a continous loops of Powerpoint slides. They just replaced it since it was showing permanent burn-in. I believe it was a 42inch LG.

I have been told that this is not burn-in in the sense of the word. Burn-in, per definition is when the image is burned or etched into the screen with no hope of correcting. On the LCD, if you completely power down the unit, there is no image left on the screen so it's not burned in. You power it up and put an image on the screen and the "ghost" image is there.

It's what they call image persistance and a lot of the time you can get rid of it or nearly get rid of it by dispalying a totally white screen saver for a while.

Click this link here to see what Apple recommends for thier LCD's which will work just fine with an LCD TV screen
